Re: Recommend me a pan please.

Cheers fellas ... I had looked at Evernew stuff, the reviews seem to say that it'll be the last pan you ever need buy. It might be slightly more expensive than some other stuff but I'm thinking quiality not quanity could be the way forward ... they also do a nice 1.3l pan which fits my criteria nice...

Re: Water

I tend to use a bottle rather than a bladder and just fill it from streams, etc and filter it with a dose of common sense ;) BUT at the start of the year we'd have been really stuck if flatfishy hadn't been carrying this http://www.theoutdoorshop.com/showPart.asp?part=PN10008 I was impressed enough ...

8/7/11 ... main site updated.

The main Bear Bones site has been updated this morning. Some more details about the Bear Bones 200, a mini stove review from flatfishy and some drivel by a bloke who rode to the sea side ... thank you ;)

Anyone out this weekend?

Sallyh and myself will be venturing out into the Welsh hills over the weekend. Plans are still a little sketchy (I haven't quite worked a route out yet) but the weather forecast looks good, so I'm sure we'll have a great time ... anyone else got something planned for the weekend?

Recommend me a pan please.

I'm on the look out for a new pan. I'm not too bothered if it's aluminium or Ti but I'd like it to have an O/D of at least 110mm, hold at least 900ml (a little bit more would be a bonus) and have some kind of handle. I know there's lots of options out there but some real world experience would be ni...

Re: I need a new tarp

I quite fancy one of these http://www.bearpawwd.com/tents_tarps/canopy_tent.html granted it's a bit of a tarp/tent hybrid but I think it offers the best of both worlds. I've had stuff from them before, pretty quick turnaround although you might get stung with customs.

Do you use a synthetic bag?

I do tend to use down bags but I have to say that sometimes when it's not really cold but possibly quite wet I do pack a light/cheap synthetic bag instead. If it's a trip of more than one night I sometimes find I can get a touch paranoid about a down bag ... there isn't always the option to dry the ...

Re: How concerned are you about weight?

Yea, I think food can be a real problem. On my last trip I didn't carry any real food and just picked stuff along the way / went hungry ... the difference in weight was a real bonus.

I only ever carry a single water bottle too, lugging around 3l of water (unless you really need to) seems a bit mad.

How concerned are you about weight?

Now, I know no one wants to be carrying a heavy load but just how concerned are you about weight? There's obviously a massive difference between carrying 5kg and 15kg but just how much sacrifice in terms of cash and comfort are you willing to make to lighten the load? Is less weight your prime consi...

Erm, very nice ... Cuben fibre doesn't half put the price up though.

After following the link, I'm now thinking Cuben fibre kilts might the next big thing! I wonder if you can pedal in one if you hitch it up ;)

When does a tarp become a tent?

I'm considering getting Bearpaw tents in the US to make me a custom tarp. I've a few ideas of what I'd like but I'm starting to wonder if my ideal, posh tarp is actually going to turn out to be a basic tent. Where would you consider a tarp ends and a tent starts? Oh and while you're here what featur...

Am I being stupid or is it possible that there maybe some relationship between condensation in bivvy bags and whether or not you're under a tarp?
