Re: Bike packing somewhere warmish in December – Any ideas ?

Similar situation; taking a month off between jobs and unsure whether to go skiing or cycling, or a bit of both. Was planning a bit of a cross-Thailand ride, but flights are still a bit pricey. Another trip to Morocco or Oman would also be appealing.

Re: K-Lite Dynamo light and chargers

Does the light come with all the parts (dynamo connections) to operate it?

Presumably the Igaro D1 just for USB charging (like a Sinewave), and isn't needed to operate the light?

Re: Quilts: toebox or not?

Got a very light synthetic quilt from EE. It's OK, but once customs and DHL have shafted you, it ain't great value. Glad I went for the footbox, but, tbh, whilst a bit more flexible in warm, humid conditions, I still prefer a sleeping bag for cooler conditions.

Re: How Much !

Have to say I empathise with the anti-'road racing' lobby, especially ultra-long events that will inevitably lead to deep fatigue. Sure, everybody should have the freedom to decide for themselves what level of personal risk they accept, but it is selfish and unreasonable to impose that risk on other...

Re: Food Supplements

OK, having started this debate by mentioning the SiS sale on the Bargain Alert thread, I probably ought to put some context on my remarks. Of course I don't disagree that a balanced diet with lots of fresh veg, etc, is the best option for general nutrition, and processed sub standard should be avoid...

Re: Super light gravel bike

The SRAM Force looks like a lot of bike for the money, although, looking at the phots, I can’t help thinking they have cocked-up the bottle cage positions - looks like you could not have 2 bottles in simultaneously, unless my eyes have been deceived... Always worry a bit when ‘cheap’ frames claim hi...

Re: Proper hipster!

Waxed cotton is the hipster's nylon. It saves the world from micro plastic. That's enough advantage. It's a bit late for me to start worrying about the amount of plastic in my cycling kit - would be like going Vegan 'cause it's fashionable, knowing I will still have the occasional bacon buttie and ...

Re: Anyone tried this option

Not tried, but I suspect it is feasible, in theory, however... I’m not a huge fan of dynamos, but for on-road riding they provide a reasonable option, with reliability caveats. I would always take a head torch to supplement if intending to ride off-road. So that’s another thing needing charged. If y...

Re: Dynamo lights

I have the same set up as Ian. It's spot on except in one aspect. At low speed off road, climbing or pushing or simply slow muddy stuff the light output is too low for me. Sounds like every dynamo light I’ve ever calms across! Always have a helmet light to provide extra light, and redundancy for wh...

I hate the way the term Adventure Bike has been exploited to market drop bar versions of what we rode 30 years ago. So here is a different interpretation:

Re: Bikepacking shoes are now a market niche!

I might be searching for the impossible, but here goes... 3 bolt (roadie) shoes for use on the UP. Have been using XC pedals and shoes until now, but will also use this bike for long road rides, Audax, etc, with Look Keo style pedals (Favero power sensors to be precise). So after a compatible shoe t...

Anyway, next step is to try and get the old PF EBB out, then find something that might last a bit longer than this piss-poor Problem Solvers junk; any recommendations? We designed a PF EBB which we have made for us by Rideworks. You'll find bearing wear is much better than the PS one as the ground ...

What industry lunatic thought it was a good idea to replace a perfectly good threaded BB with something that requires you to take a hammer to your frame? I'd like to take a hammer to that b******s genitals/fingers/head!!! Followed up by power tools... Yes, I am a bit miffed.

Have been with BMC Insurance for years; had to claim once (big med bills in Canada, 2009), and they sorted everything without too much fuss. However, the policy costs have steadily increased every year, way beyond inflation, and this years hike is totally taking the piss. Had a look at DogTag, and t...

my gravel bike reminds me what mountain biking was like when i want much younger. Definitely simpler times, being older than God (according to my Son) my first MTB was a Diamond Back Assent.
