The stuff I have is foam, very soft , about 2mm thick.
I have a peice I take out with me for a sit mat as well,

I use laminate floor underlay ( the thin foamy stuff ) in my shoes , get a piece and try it on a really cold floor one foot on one foot off, it works really well and is flat as a pancake.
