Re: A wee whisky appreciation thread.
I went to the Penderyn distillery briefly on a trip a couple of years ago and bought a miniature for that night's bivi, liked it enough to buy a bottle next time I saw it on offer. Not tried Irish whiskey though, might go for one of the ones recommended here. I do like bourbon too, Maker's Mark and...

Re: Electric Socks
I've got some of those (well, a different brand from amazon but very similar looking) and they're great. Wife and kids got me them for Christmas as my feet are always frozen following a frostbite issue and then Strata Florida. I wore them on this morning's short ride in -6, with just some normal rid...

Re: A wee whisky appreciation thread.
I'm usually a Laphroaig drinker, but have recently been given a bottle of Machrie Moor from Arran which is really lovely. Doesn't have the medicinal notes of Laphroaig, but still peaty and in keeping with the other you have named. Maybe worth trying some nice Irish ones too?

Re: Today's Run
Not been for a decent run in a while, and had a day off with lovely winter weather yesterday.... Parked up to the north of Kinder Scout (blackden brook), ran/scrambled up a frozen gully, avoiding the frozen waterfall as I was alone, to the north edge of the kinder plateau and then across the top so ...

Looks great flv... I prefer the shot without the bike, but not sure why!
Is that BMX track Bruntwood? Brings back memories of my childhood, grew up about 10 minutes ride from there and went to 6th form at the college which backs onto it, so used to ride some laps on lunch break

Went to pick up some bargain bits from bearlegged of this forum this afternoon... My online meeting was done, laundry and housework too so thought I'd take the scenic route. Re: Happy New Year, and plans for 2024
My personal targets for the year (depending on the next MRI scan results, see above!) are to do something active - 5km+ run, 10km+ on the bike, climbing, yoga, weights etc - every day.
And a Bob Graham in June, followed by bb200 or 300 in the autumn.

Re: Happy New Year, and plans for 2024
Sorry to read that Loki. Could you get out on foot with bivi kit? I've been thinking of doing a hiker bivi recently, should have added it to the list here. I wish that was the case, walking is the problem I have, being on a bike is actually easier for me, I have learned that you don't recover from ...

Before you do anything too drastic, have you got thin rim tape? I've been amazed at the difference swapping to thin tape (insulation tape for tubes tyres) makes to the ease of fitting.

Going pretty well here. Had my parents & the in-laws over for the day yesterday, no issues at all - I was mostly cooking or playing with the kids so a good day... Wife and kids got me a pair of ski goggles and a refresher ski course (after snowboarding for the last 25 years) at snowdome, so all ...

Shortest day, done.
Teaching for the term, done.
Exams set up for January, done.
Off into Sheffield, along with the rest of the city I suspect, for an end of year drink with other worn out teachers

Not my bike, but I just finished up a stitch (from Disney) themed BMX for my daughter today. Started out as a badly painted white & black Fit bike, modified with a few nice bits from the chain reaction sell off and many coats of paint! Now just to add a couple of carefully placed metallic sticke...

Sounds like a perfect bike for it to me. I put inboard bar ends on my bike to give a hoods type position for the long first climb, and it made a decent difference to my hand comfort so drops would be even better

Ryobi are pretty decent - I've got their cordless drill/driver and it works for most uses other than larger masonry drilling, where I break out the corded SDS drill anyway. I assume that the larger combi drill will be a touch more powerful too.

excellent question, and I'm not too sure about the issue with 29+. I'm a massive fan of my stooge with 29x3 front and rear - works for everything from 30 minute blasts on the local steep rocky singletrack to this year's BB200 (and hopefully next year's BB300).
