Advice please - Converting a commuter to a gravel bike

I’d like to convert my Genesis Day One to a gravel type bike. Questions: The frame has clearance for 38mm tyres. I’ll use it for a mix of stuff, not just fire roads, mostly in the Peak where I live. I’ll avoid anything too rocky. Is 38 a bit small? What are people using? It has horizontal dropouts, ...

Re: Joytech RCC Rear Hub Longevity?

I have a Genesis Day One that I use for commuting. It had a Joytech singlespeed cassette hub. Not the same model as yours but the description sounds very similar - not properly sealed. I got fed up with servicing the cup and cone bearings every couple of months and rebuilt the wheel round a decent c...

Re: Slipping in a borah gear bivi

I had the same problem, always sliding downhill in my bivvy. Lines of silnet on the base have improved it loads with no detrimental effects.

That’s a great ride Sean. As a fellow singlespeeder I applaud you!👍
If you’re well adapted to SS riding I think they can be really good for long rides, but doing them fast like that is well ‘ard.🙂

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

April BAM just done, that's 4/ 4. My son wanted to join me this time - he's not usually keen on cycling but has done plenty of bivvying and wildcamping on foot. So I got a Lomo seatpack and a double ended dry bag for the bars, sort of for him but really because I wanted some extra stuff... a good ex...

I’ve got a couple of pairs of Rivelo Honister shorts from SportPursuit. They’re really good. Normally reduced to £50 from £120.

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

Not a proper BAM trip as no bikes involved, but a good short trip with my son. We had a delayed start due to family emergencies but got to Llyn Geirionydd car park mid afternoon. Walked along the lakeside to the monument. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7826/32516364617_d97d226d41_z.jpg Untitled by C...

Re: Re-wilding Scotland

“Feral” by George Monbiot is worth a read on this subject. His view is that much of upland Britain is a man-made wasteland created by sheep farming and shooting interests. It’s not sustainable economically (relies on subsidies, not sure how that will pan out if we leave the EU), and ecologically it’...

I once push started a Reliant Robin. I braced myself, it was just me pushing, gave it a big shove and fell flat on my face. They don’t weigh much.

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

March BaM 3/3. I rode in to work on Friday with my bike loaded up and managed to escape mid afternoon. The plan was to do a shortish ride so I could find a spot to pitch my new Lunar Solo for the first time and have enough daylight to faff around with it if I couldn't get it right. I found a good sp...

Interested too, I just ordered a main Lunar Solo pole from you at the weekend.

Is it possible to use bike/wheels in lieu of lifter poles? Just a thought.

Ride out from work yesterday afternoon, perfect weather - not like February should be! I got to the shelter near Ladybower in the dark, settled down for some food and a dram before turning in. https://i.ibb.co/5Wy90KN/761-E6-F1-C-381-C-4-D32-BC64-3682581-F94-E0.jpg https://i.ibb.co/Zmrqh4q/7-A8830-B...

Tent advice - Lunar Solo

I’m looking at getting a one man tent - have been using tarp and bivvy up to now and would like a bit more protection for winter camps and somewhere to hide from the midgies in the summer. I like the look of the SMD Lunar Solo, about £230 but need to get a pole too (from Stuart perhaps). Does anyone...

Lessons learned - my meths stove doesn’t work well at those temps and bare skin sticks to tent pegs! Bag and quilt combo worked fine....

I failed dismally in February, due to leaving it until the last weekend of the month and then MrsF being ill  I managed a good ride out yesterday though.
