Re: With the demise of The Star...
I stayed at the pub in Llanbrynmair before one BB200. It was basic but the welcome was warm, the food was hot and the beer was perfectly acceptable.

Re: SS. Gear for the flats or hills?
I’d say, as a starting point, go a couple of teeth bigger at the rear than you would for unloaded riding. But these things are personal, so you’ll have to experiment, I reckon.

Re: Toast
That’s top toasting, TBD. I will learn from the master.
However, I have to say my results from holding next to, rather than over, wood flames, were good enough to eat and not noticeably smoky.
Your method should slim the toaster down to about 20g, too, and make it more packable.

Here’s the result of my home experiment with a wood stove, some mesh and the remnants of a coat hanger. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-O-INVO7o3o3j6G5_CQ-iXsALLYT10abyPGvzNVqpEa6nYSRvYt2yqrqytEJolwIhRl6_N2r5JwZ38Hc2q2mcE-uQdo8Sq8Alvb6d_PlPlj57GMPR28W8leFuYyA_1Um32vfpRSu=w1920-h1080 https:...

I’ve used one of those pyramid things over a gas burner in the distant past and remember it being pretty crap.
I do have a wood stove from Joe’s shop. Might try and bicycle something up with that. Should I try charcoal?

Toast
I love toast. If I’m at home my breakfast inevitably involves a slice or two.
I have a big job/grill that does an OK job when car camping
But is there an ultralight, bikepacking-friendly way to make toast?

I have some Gripgrab ones. They do slow the process of water running down your legs into your boots but I’ve not used them that much.

That sounds worth a try. Might it also be worth adding some Tenacious tape over the stitching? I believe it’s used to repair packrafts.

Re: Fork trouble
Theoretically the seller should sort that out for you but if the can’t be arsed and just offer a refund then you’ll almost certainly get them fixed for less than £300. I’d give TF Tuned a bell and see what they say.

Re: Faulty Voile straps, anyone else?
I’ve got a couple of these, (one from Bikemonger and one possibly from somewhere else). Only used them once so far, without a problem, but I didn’t tug them up especially hard. I’m away at the moment but I’ll check when I get home.

Re: Heavy Duty Bags For Eating Out Of
Yup, pour and store bags (available on EBay) will do the job. Can be washed and re-used. Alternatively, a collapsible bowl is a tad heavier/bulkier but more durable and, probably, a bit more eco.

I have one on the front of my SS Stooge and I love it. I’m not sure I’d want them at both ends - they are big, chunky and a bit draggy.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021
A last minute change of plan for August. I’d bought a train ticket to Eastbourne with the intention of riding home along the South Downs and across the Weald but a signal failure put paid to that. Thwarted, I did the obvious thing and spent the morning painting the hall ceiling instead. However, hav...

Re: Tents, tarps, bivvies... help!
I don’t think you’ll go far wrong with that set-up from Joe’s shop. I’m also in the south and it’s surprising how often you can get away with just a bivy bag. I’d also say that I rarely worry about bug protection down here, so I might be more inclined to get the Tyvek bivy and tarp to start with, as...

TLDR: bah, humbug I’ve started using it a bit since I stopped working. It’s vaguely interesting seeing how many miles I do each week but I often forget to use it and I’ve very little interest in performance analysis. I don’t share anything and I don’t care about comparing myself with others. I use o...
