takes his boring vehicle to a proper garage and tries not to wince when they present the bill Despite being an ex mechanic, with access to a ramp and full tools at weekends, I often do the same as sometimes an easy job ends up like what Shaf experienced Well done for seeing it through Shaf to a goo...

Reasonable point and i am certainly getting close to it (IMHO others may think i have passed it allready) so will shut up now and bow out the threadinternet flaming and stating things are a rip off is all too common when we haven't used a service.

Re: Off Topic - siezed, rusted, possibly double threaded, sheared bolt extraction advice!
This is true. Its a rate for a service. Splitting hairs as his service will take about 20 mins and is an extortionate hourly rate. ( evenn+ if you include travel) Amazed anyone would pay £150 for a two second weld. It could be a total nightmare. Its about the easiest weld you could ever do apart fr...

It can indeed as i have done it
I used 142. mm end caps and an ebay boost kit. Done thousands of miles without issue
I have an alpkit set its 148 rear boost and boost front and dont want to split.
£100 + post for set up with tyres ( probably ramblers) set up tubeless

Re: Crashing....
Weirdest crash was rounding a corner, in rural single lane Devon, at the bottom of a hill so shifting when i encountered a buzzard with a kill.. It took off straight towards me and flew straight at my face (they are massive in this perspective with talons out) so i ditched to avoid it. Lying on the ...

We live in very different worlds if you think £100 an hour is a reasonable hourly wage for any human beimg to earn. ( shaf is a nurse and is nowhere near that for example nor is a teacher etc or indeed almost anyone working.£100 an hour for skilled labour

Good spot. Wonder if you can cold chisel out the bottom bit (. Thinest bit") and the same with what is left I suspect you will damage some.thread, whatever you try, but if its localised you *MAY* get away with and it will still take the bolt. * might be too much metal left at the moment so I wo...

Its about 2 mins work, granted they need to get there and set up but still its a firm no from me.£150... erm, no thanks
If the above fails is it possible to drill it out bigger and then tap that hole (obvs need to drill whatever the bolt passes through)

A mobile welder would be a better bet. I doubt your first ever weld would be good/strong enough

Again agree with stu you cannot really drill stainless steel with a hand drill.
Can the caliper mount be removed or is it part of the suspension strut?
Might be easier to take it all somewhere and get it removed on a bench at a garage or engineering place ( £20 aa a guess)

What stu says
Turm the wrong way if possible to " crack"
Immemse heat ( and feeeze... Not sure what it will do but it ia unlikely to do any harm)
Weld to it and extract
Likely need a garage or welder imho.

Re: What are you reading now?
One of the very few books i have re read and i actually own a copyZen and the Art is possibly my favourite book. I've read it a couple of times, but it's been a few years and I suspect I could learn from it once more.
Really enjoyed it every time i have read and may re read it again.

Re: New (carbon?) wheels
Remember 10+ years ago we were all putting 2.3 tyres mtb tyres on 19 mm internal width rims perhaps even a 2.5. My SS still does with 26 ers
I ride 3 " tyres on 30 mm internal and a 38 mm on a 19 mm ( road) IMHO its just the current trend ( go wider) rather than it really matters
