Re: What you done t' your bike today

Finally got time to fit the sks velo mudguards to my Arkose. That was an interesting experience, lots of frustration trying to squeeze metal nuts into plastic fittings until I discovered that a 10 mm Alan key makes a good press. They’re made from a really stiff plastic so they’d probably be ok with...

Re: Todays ride

Did the red tape make that much of a difference? I have had this problem myself leaving my Exposure on the brightest setting by mistake on long night rides. I went out yesterday at dusk testing my new frame and there were so many people out and about in the forest that I came back early, I will need...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

I transplanted some SKS mudguards from one gravel bike to a new version of the same bike (outside in the rain), which as everyone who has put SKS mudguards onto a bike knows took two hours and eliminated any motivation to ride the thing.

Re: West Highland Way record

I did it with camping equipment in a little over 26 hours (plus six hours sleeping on top of Devil's Staircase). The first section is old railway busy with dog walkers and gates. The section around Loch Lomond was a 6km push/pull/heave which took me two hours. And you share it with big groups of wal...

Re: Similar to Exposure, but not... is there such a thing?

Get the Toro. I don't have one but want one, just as a step up from my Diabolo. Wouldn't running the two together be a bit of overkill?? Or would you need sunglasses at night  There was a day where I had misplaced my regular glasses so had to ride home at night with prescription sunnies on us...

Re: My Arcteryx experience

All of my working/moving around shoes break at this point after a year because my toes are excessively wide and just stress the material to failure, even in wide fitting shoes. I really like the quality of Arcteryx shoes (fully resoleable) but they are narrower than average. The only other person I ...

Not merino & deeply unfashionable but far and away the best base layer I’ve Used. https://www.nordiclife.co.uk/products/brynje-wool-thermo-t-shirt  Seconded, I have worn lycra jersey/armwarmers and this vest for winter road riding and remained comfortable down to freezing, also worn with...

Re: What Going On With The Track Taken From The Highlands;

On the HT550 there's a bit round a loch (forgotten the name) late on the first or early on the second day - it goes past the haunted house. It's a pain pushing and carrying the bike over the rocks but it's over soon enough. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Wh82VKxspYY/UX6WrOB5NTI/AAAAAAAACbU/LmEQ0GVRQgw/s...

London unfortunately, I can't see myself travelling across the country under the (countrywide and personal) circumstances.

This is very tempting but I don't know if I could justify unsighted buying/shipping a bike I have never sat upon.

I did it two year ago in the last week of September; I had 20c sun and blue skies the first day then freezing wind from Loch Builg then thick frost and snow when I stopped at Braemar campsite (thin ski gloves were appreciated).

Re: What Gravel ****** brakes - GRX worth the dosh?

Could be an option but would require a Giant stem, https://www.cyclestore.co.uk/giant_conduct_hydraulic_disc_brake_upgrade_kit-ID_76551 I was looking at that system with interest for a while but have discounted it. Looks like it’ll crowd out the stem area too much for my liking. Making mounting all...

I thought the rules also forbid using cars and specified you had to use public transport to get to the start so I assume the same method to get home? They may have changed the rules due to Covid 19. So what is the difference between entering a shop for three minutes and giving much-needed money to ...

Just a thought.

If participants are not allowed to have contact with anyone on the route, be it at campsites or in shops, to stop the spread of a particular disease...

When they reach JOG and the event finishes (and they are no longer under the umbrella of GBDuro) how do they get home?

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

It was very hot today, I ran out of water and in my desperation to search a churchyard for a tap (solid grey building in middle of map, and there wasn't one) I neglected to cycle ten metres further on this road. Only a 30km trip back to get it. I also remembered my GPS is set to 60 second record so ...
