Re: Great Orme to Worm's Head

How about the 29 September to 2 October (Thursday to Sunday)?

Subject to the usual caveats with the weather. Don't mind some rain, but if they've forecast four days of solid rain I'd rather shelve it until early spring next year.

Not solar, but you could make your own, like this: http://ianbarrington.com/2010/03/21/portable-power/

Re: Lets Pretend ... Dream Kit.

Yes, they're Specialized Z-cages. Saw Aidan had some on his bike for the WRT, and subsequently for the TD. They work well around frame bags, though the vertical one ends up being left handed, which is their only drawback.

Re: Great Orme to Worm's Head

The year does appear to be advancing rapidly. End of September maybe?
Early October would have been OK if it wasn't for the BB200.
Later you leave it, the shorter the days and greater likelihood of poor weather.

Right, here you go: Wildcat Clouded Leopard, 150g on the nose. Stuffed with tarp, bivvy bag, sleeping mat, first aid kit and few other bits and bobs: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6182/6058666924_4e49546e21.jpg Wildcat Clouded Leopard by ianbarrington , on Flickr http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6080...

If you want pepperoni, does that mean you have to bring a whole cow?

Why do I have to better it?
Well you don't I suppose - I just imagined that you'd want to. Progress and all that. Refinement of the process from lessons learnt first time around. :geek:

Besides, if someone did do the one this year how much do you want to keep that crown?

Is it better to wait until the temperature is 10 degrees below and there's snow on the ground, for maximum effect, an' all? ;)

Unless you know something about the weather this December that I don't

Nice video that. Looks an amazing place to ride though.

I don't think he has all that much stuff - no stove, simple tarp, lightweight bag etc. Doesn't take up all that much room really.

Re: Kit to get started with?

I'm not sure how far away Wildcat are from having theirs finished and into production ... hopefully Ian will come along and shed some light. Building work at home has slowed development/ production somewhat. Ideally, in time for the BB200 (Mid October). Wildcat Mountain Lion harness has its straps ...

Stu - found camera and cleaned bike but it was too dark last night to take a good picture.

Matt - might have a prototype for you in time for BB200.

Re: Lets Pretend ... Dream Kit.

Wildcat Clouded Leopard in VX07 fabric Beth has just finished this for me. 150g partial frame bag, into which I can fit sleeping mat, tarp, moonlight bivvy, first aid kit and few other bits. Cut specifically to allow me to use two bottles on the bike, thus negating the need for anything on my back....

Thanks chaps - glad it's not just me. I had to laugh a bit in the first Cordillera where she gets to Pie Town just before the pie shop closes and when asks what she would like, she says a salad... You've just ridden 100+ miles to a town famous for its pies, and you want a salad? :? While we'r...

Very nice actually. Haven't had a Speyside whisky in a long while and this one was particularly smooth and balanced.

Re: Montane Minimus Jacket

That Haglofs one looks good for biking - drop tail, and arms cut on the long side to allow coverage with a thumb grip. If you were to modify it to remove the hood, sub 150g? Basically like this, http://www.haglofs.com/en-us/products/clothing/layers/intense/men/shield_pullover_en-us.aspx, but made of...

Re: Nemo Gogo?

Mike Hall used one on the Divide too. They've got some nice details, such as the "swallow tail" foot box. They look like they'll be more bearable in bad weather than a tarp or bivvy bag would be. They're much less weight than any equivalent that I can find, and imagine as a result they pac...

Great Orme to Worm's Head

Just finished plotting this route. 403 km, 10,700m ascent. Very high proportion of off road, but mostly on tracks that I am familiar with so a high degree of rideability. I thought three nights/ four days to allow travel up to North Wales. That works out at around 80 miles/ day. There are good optio...

Searching for something on here brought me to this thread. Just finished the two Corillera's, to which Jill Homer contributed two articles. I much prefer the SS as it reflects the stripped-bare kit that appeals to me. I think this is why I find it appealing. If I was looking for an easier ride, gears would be the way to go. Selecting the right ratio is crucial to avoid walking all the hills. After this years WRT, I think it also depend...
