Re: HT550 2022

Dave does need to just get it done now. I didn't spot Alan's name on the list. I feel duty bound to get it done this year as it was very good of Alan to hold me a place. I'm sure he will be there as well You’re rider 7. Hopefully your luck extends beyond just that. Strong field for next year, though.

Re: Like white dog shi+.....

Didn’t Bob have an issue in the BB300 with some rechargeable batteries that wouldn’t work? I guess you can have lithiums fail, too, but it’s never happened to me. FWIW, I use regular AA NiMh’s for general use and only get the AA lithiums for events when I want one less thing to have to think about. ...

Advantages;

Cold weather performance (helpful when I was in Finland)
Last longer than anything else (my eTrex 30 lasts about 40 hours on a pair*)
Lighter weight

* the pair I put in for the BB300 were reading 2 out of 4 bars on the battery indicator at the end of the event (27hr ride time)

Re: All points north cycling/BPing event

Regarding insurance and negligence, I would imagine if there was an accident and a claim was lodged by a third party, lawyers could argue that the organisers are encouraging riders to cycle over 1000km in 72 hours, by means of setting up an event specifically for the purpose, and that puts riders at...

Most phased forest felling is designed to protect the crop from South through to west winds. Northerly and easterly winds will more likely find an exposed edge.

The question that covers the reflection harness says: “I understand that I am responsible for keeping my lights charged and will wear the reflective harness provided between dusk and dawn” So the harness is a night time thing, which although not part of UK Law or in the Highway Code (which is an ear...

Re: Viewranger being discontinued.

I use a combination of Komoot and Route Buddy. Komoot is very handy for plotting long routes very quickly, especially on roads (e.g. I planned my APN route in less than 20 mins, 1091km). I use Route Buddy for all my off-road stuff, having amassed a large library of routes over the years. I bought th...

Re: All points north cycling/BPing event

As a slight aside to the main thread, I’ve been looking for a while at the Pan Celtic Race, for which the APN event was well timed as a “training event”. Entries for Pan Celtic opened last night, and I was poised to enter until I saw the cost… Er, no thanks. I’m sure it’ll be great, but race entry f...

Six quid for a Lego head? Wow. Pretty sure I could raid the kids Lego bits box and get a pair for nowt. Obviously need to tap a thread into them, but I guess that’s not hard if they’re doing it.

Sorry to hear that Ian. Please check ribs (seriously) I had a similar crash at speed many years ago and unknowingly broke 2 of them. I now look odd in a mirror (not that I didn't before) as they were never put back properly. Thanks for the well-wishes chaps. Nothing out of place or broken, but very...

I have the same helmet managed to the thread the inner part of the Exposure mount on the outside of the MIPS frame so it clamps only either side of the polystyrene and the outer hard shell part.

Re: New helmet recommendations

I’ve got a Bell FourForty that has MIPS. I find it annoying when I’ve got a helmet mounted light on top as the outer shell moves about on the inner MIPS cradle due to the weight of the light. It’s OK without the light fitted. It’s my first MIPS helmet, I’m not overly impressed but can’t compare it t...

Hit a patch of black ice* on a fast decent. Hit the ground hard, slid a long way. Sore hip, ribs and elbow. Wrecked a gillet and put holes in two new pieces of winter clothing

Re: Restrap bar bag reviews please

I would like to make it known that the concept of a rear harness that holds a separate dry bag was developed in the space between my ears. Knowing that (a) it seemed like a good idea and (b) I wouldn't do anything with it, I gave it to Ian and Beth who developed it. Therefor, by my reckoning, the e...

Re: Restrap bar bag reviews please

Yes I see that similarity but is that not the case with other companies also with regard to bikepacking kit. Case in point the Straightcut design handlebar harness and the Wildcat one. I designed the Lion harness over 10 years ago and for much of that time it hasn’t been copied. Isn’t imitation the...

Pretty much my experience. Went to Uni in Bangor, so we’d do it quite a lot. Virtually cleaned it to the steep section after the bridge. That was mid-90’s though, so maybe more eroded now.

There are quite a few green lanes along the Welsh border - Powys particularly. I think the chap that did the Rough Ride Guide put together a load of routes that utilitied them.

I'd already doodled on them - pink route is the route I planned to take, will check it against the GPX file later when Routegadget is sorted. They double sided the map to make it "less confusing" and it would have been near impossible to work off the single sided map. Fascinating, thanks....
