Re: 2 Part Cone Windshield - Prototype

Just remember the 8g is designed to work with the mug directly on top I was planning to run it with a small gap (0.5cm) would this work ok? I'm still getting issues with putting the flame out when I put the mug on (admittedly usually in crappy conditions). It seems to burn fine when it's just sitti...

Re: 2 Part Cone Windshield - Prototype

Thanks Stu. I read you had some Alu foil that might be good for making a Flissure? Got any left? I still need to print out a template to see what size I need but fancied trying to make a small one for my 450ml mug. I saw Iain's first attempt melted so want to make sure it's the right thickness. It's...

That titanium foil link looks interesting. Anyone got any/can comment on how suitable it looks?

Re: Borders 300 First Test Run.

I run mine in Airplane mode if I'm tracking a route while out riding so that should disable A-GPS. I use a Galaxy S3 and haven't had problems with the GPS failing to connect (including some times in mist), but am interested what benefits a dedicated GPS might give. I'm keen to make sure that if I'm ...

Re: Borders 300 First Test Run.

Cracking write up, think we've all been there - although thankfully for me it's only been for short periods of time! Glad you're going to continue with it, interested to see the completed route. What phone you were using for ViewRanger? I'd have thought that the GPS chip in modern phones would be at...

Re: new pump??

Another Lezyne Alloy drive mini pump here. Best mini pump for MTB tyres I've used. One tip though, if you've got removable valve cores, make sure they're on tight and don't crank the lezyne hose up really tight. I've seen a couple of people unscrew their valve cores with them now. Easily avoided if ...

Re: Highland trail 550!!

Thanks, really enjoyed the vid. Beautiful scenery. We were out doing a 4 day trip about a day behind you up to the Devils Staircase. Descent down to Kinlochleven raised a smile from familiar grin inducing terrain. Sounds like the prep for next year is starting already!

Re: Freak failures

About to start a huge loop in the Cairngorms, getting the train from Blair Atholl to Aviemore with fully loaded bikes. We noticed my mates seatpost was bit bent, "good job we noticed that before we got into the middle of nowhere". 5 minutes later the tyre went bang, seems the sidewall had ...

Would go quite well with one of these

Seem pretty good for the price (no actual experience of them though).

Re: Outers - continuous or not?

Full outers every time. I drilled out the stops on my C456 so I could run full outers on it. Miss my Gore cables, they don't seem to do them any more (although they were pretty pricy). That was in the days when I had disposable income... ho hum... :???: .

Yes. Bit odd with No logo, having a logo. I've got one of Graham's bags too though and have been really impressed with it. Quite reasonably priced too, although I got mine a couple of years ago so they may be more expensive now.

I think that's the same area the article on bike packing in the new Singletrack is from. Oddly, it looks like a different three guys but they made the same choice of MASSIVE rucksacks.

I got a pair of the http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/ftr/gl ... s/sub-zero for properly cold conditions. Only been out in around -1 in them so just used the outers. The inner lets you use your phone.

@alpnick - Any updates on when you think the Kanga/Y Fronts might be online? I'm thinking of this for Xmas but will probably buy one myself next year if they're not going to be available.

Cheers,

Re: Snow - anyone else?

Well an eventful night on Friday, started off on the path up to Meall Tionall bothy with my lights. The path was pretty much frozen solid though as the Landrovers must have packed the snow down on them. Got to a bridge with no guard rails that was totally frozen over with slick ice and though better...

Re: Snow - anyone else?

Scotroutes, how are things looking today?

Weather forecast looks ok, cold - but low winds and low likelihood of rain/snow. Do you know how high the snowline is around Minigaig, Glen Feshie, Glen Tilt?

Stu.

Re: Snow - anyone else?

Thinking of heading North from Blair Atholl through Minigaig at the weekend. Anyone up that way tell me if this is foolish or not?

I''ve been through before in the summer so know the way, forecast is for minimal wind, although it looks chilly!
