Sorry for your loss. Sounds like a good innings well-filled. Have cleared out both Mum (moved to a home) and Dad's (died) places over the last few years. I'm in no way saying it's negative, simply that I don't quite understand the degree of excitement these routes seem to generate.

I suspect the combination of things required to generate excitement in you is very specific, unique, entirely personal and quite probably a wee bit odd

Dakota and Etrex get my vote. Used for walking, paddling and biking. Bit clunky and fuzzy compared to a smartphone but if I go out phone tends to be off / airplane and used for specific things (internet access, camera, comm's) whilst the Garmins do the nav and map work.
