Re: Flats
A long term SPD user I dabble with flat pedals from time to time to remind myself how bad they are. Another recommendation for Nukeproof, if you want to spend a bit more then Crank Bros are very good too.

Re: Loop Bars - uncomfortable
I bought loop bars and tried them on few different bikes, bearable but not what I'd call a good experience. Then I tried a Jones and it all made sense. On the short, tall riding position the Jones gives they're perfect. In my probably useless opinion, to make loop bars work on an MTB that isn't a Jo...

If you want a decent view of the stars how about one of the Six Moons offerings and leave the front open.

This one is much better, it uses 4 swear words instead. Not for the easily offended:

Re: Van recommendations
Just getting back to the OP. So many vans. So little time. Do you intend to sleep in it at campsites? If so, you'll need to do some conversion works and get it reclassified. I have no idea why this is an issue but having no idea whatsoewver, the first time I turned up to a campsite near the FOD in ...

Re: Van recommendations
I mentioned my Caddy earlier, I also own a VW Crafter lwb with the maxi body. It's at the converters at the moment, so no pics sadly. My house is sold and I move out on the 27th of this month, the van will be ready mid October and I'm going to live it for a while.

Re: Van recommendations
I drive a Caddy, it easily takes 2 mountain bikes and enough kit for any cycling and camping we want to do. When I bought it I looked at bigger vans and brought a couple home on test drives to load them with stuff to make sure I got what I needed. In the end I ruled out bigger stuff and it was a cho...

Don't forget the wildflower center. It's amazing how good weeds look when done properly, lots to learn although it might be a bit late season for many of the flowers. The gunnera on the driveway are worth going just for the photo opportunity.

Sold: Six Moons Lunar Duo
My Six Moons Lunar Duo is for sale. It's had at most 4 nights use, all on campsites with wifey and is in "as new" condition. It includes 2 x 45 inch Six Moons poles, you'll need to supply your own pegs. A bargain at £250 collected from Bishop's Stortford. If you want it posted that'll be w...

Another vote for Nukeproof, shop around, I got some from Go Outdoors for £25.
I swap to flat pedals from time to time, always end up back on SPD's though.

I've had it for years, most of the time I'm able to ignore it. I now have hearing aids for both ears, it helps the tinnitus during the day but also they come with their own set of challenges.

Re: Bespoke frame - anyone done it?
There's 5 bespoke frames here, 3 belong to wifey. Hers are all road frames and are basically the height of a large with the length of a small, a 56cm seat tube with a 52cm top tube. One is steel and was built by a mate. One is Ti and built by a chap in Canada as I couldn't find a UK builder willing ...

Re: Tubeless with non tubeless ready tyres?
Non TR Maxxis tyres can develop the Maxxis Bubble when used with tubeless sealant. The tread delaminates from the carcass and causes a bubble on the tyre which gets gradually worse until it pops. Google Maxxis Bubble for pics. I had it happen on the Divide.

Re: Geoff Bars vs Jones H
I use a Wildcat bag, as mentioned they're not big, works ok with the rest of my bar stuff which is all Revelate. Wifey uses a Surly Moloko bag on her Jones bars. Much bigger capacity than the Wildcat and has elastic on top for securing small items. A nice bag, it also fits well with her Revelate set...

Re: Six moons lunar solo
I'd go for the 49 inch pole as recommended by Six Moons. Carbon vs alloy poles. A few days before I left for a 3 month ride in the US I met a a friend for a few beers and a night away. At some point during the night I needed a piss, on the way out of the Lunar Solo I clipped the pole with my foot an...
