Re: Those SOL bivvy bag things
Looks remarkably similar to my SOL Emergency and adopt 1/5th of the price. I never plan to sleep in mine but carry it just in case. The weight/ volume penalty is negligible. I slept in it once in the UK in summer - not particularly pleasant but I didn’t die. If it’s cold/winter I carry a Blizzard Pa...

Re: Fitting Jones Loops
Mine are set up like normal bars. I couldn't work out how Jones said the ends are for descending if you can't reach the brakes My thoughts exactly. Trawling through images online shows >90% set up with controls next to the cross bar. Any variation on that is usually by people running Ergonomic styl...

Re: Fitting Jones Loops
Next question:
Where are people positioning their controls and putting their primary hand position?
Up against the cross piece or more towards the end of the bar - like you would conventionally?

Ta Duncan.
Pretty pleased all in all. Also still have the excuse to go back and go for a sub 24hrs. All the flapping about with my tyre probably cost me an hour by the time I finished.
I’d like to organise a mid summer group start for next year.

Re: Fitting Jones Loops
Heresy though it may be i’ve just pressed the button on some  Geoff  bars from everyone’s favourite shop :o I really can’t justify £100-150 on handlebars I may not even get on with. It’ll be more like £200 once some esi grips and good quality tape are added in. I’ve got a few stems in th...

Re: a dislike of bikepacking luggage. anyone else?
Polaris style :-bd add sleeping bag in rolled up closed cell foam sleep mat on rear rack for full points. I remember that fondly  I also remember doing hard off-road riding with two racks and 4 panniers without any problems. If I were to do an extended trip again I don’t think I would hesitat...

Re: Packed bike weighIn Thread
I do the same as Sean. Especially this time of year. I go with enough gear not to die but not enough to be comfortable. That way in the deep of night I see carrying on as a better option than stopping. Definitely helped me on the B150 when I was feeling sorry for myself in Horner woods in the dark :...

I’m also thinking about Moloko bars...
They look like everything is a bit more forward than the Jones.

Re: Lakes 200
Thanks Bob. Just saw Ian Barringtons report online and link to his ride on Strava. I was just trying to work out where various start points would put the hours of darkness. I think for me sunset at the bottom of Borrowdale might be best. Anyway this is most probably a project for next year do I can ...
Lakes 200
So I just did B150 and therefore need something else to obsess over. I’m thinking Lakes 200 would be a good target. Browsing the Self Supported UK site shows the route with a small loop around Staveley and a main loop around the Lakes. It says to go clockwise. How’s that work? Do you start in Stavel...

Re: Packed bike weighIn Thread
Wow. That’s a lot of stuff. Never thought your Sonder could be so light. What is it? Transmitter, Frontier?
With my bikes, which are mostly chunky steel jobbies with Rohloff’s I’d be carrying next to nothing to get a sub 20kg set up. Let alone 2L water and cans of pop.
Nice work.

Fitting Jones Loops
Considering some Loops for my Krampus.
If switching from a low riser bar will I need to/benefit from changing the length or rise of my stem.
It looks like the Loops would put the primary hand position further back than ‘normal’ but that’s desirable - right?

Most likely a doctor as nurses are either too thick or (think they're) too hard. You know a prominent and highly admirable recent TD racer, in a similar situ recently, is a nurse, right? : ) (with apologies if I missed a subtle joke - you seem to have some experience here!) I’m assuming it’s a misf...

I’m in.
Unsure as to whether it’ll be 200 or 300.
Shafiq is in too ‘cause I got him a berth after I bought mine.
Tyres? I’m going round and most probably black.

Re: Rigid to Bouncy Forks Formula
From my recent asking:
You need to get a suspension fork about the same dropout to crown length with the fork in its sagged position.
Just did that myself and the bike rides fine.
The trail is different on the suspension fork but I can’t tell the difference.

Suppose you pull the spike out of the inside when you lift off a bead to stick the tube in.
2 tubes on multi day jaunts at present. May need to revisit that idea.

Just done the Braunton 150 itt, cracking ride and I may write it up. Managed to get another slit in a Schwalbe Nobby Nic. When I poked in standard anchovy strips they were being spewed back out of the hole when I brought it up to modest pressure. I was aiming for 22psi and they began to eject at aro...
