Re: EBB's in PF30
Anyone tried one of those eccentric bottom bracket conversions for a PF30 BB shell? Niner and 'Beer Components' (nee White Industries) seem to be the only ones going. I'm idly contemplating a frame with a PF30 shell for a singlespeed thing... (No Press fit BB chit chat please  ) I'd stay away...

I've certainly seen that in the instructions of some models.

Re: Combined hip/waist and handlebar packs
I have a Jaand hip/lumber pack that I used to mount on the bars using a setup similar to the drj0n strapdeck and GFunk system (but not as nice ). I've not used it like that for a few years but I think I have some pics I can dig out.

Re: What would you do...
I think it would be pretty obvious if the initial damage was cause by a strike vs some sort of fatigue failure. What might complicate things is that if you've then ridden it for any sort of distance when it's cracked/broken, that's going to mess up the area pretty bad and make it harder to tell. The...

I use an extension bar that I made that slides onto my roof bars. My van is 2M high so can be a challenge sometimes. It makes a massive difference to how easy it is to load.

Re: Road bike question.
Mass produced bikes will always suffer a little more from this than smaller volume brands I think. I know when I design for a smaller rider I'll always pay more attention to a minimum front centre dimension than I normally would. To get this to work, it will normally mean a fork with a greater offse...

Multi-setups for multi-bikes?
Just looking at numbers/spreadsheets and other boring documents of doom and a thought popped into my head. I'm going to take a wild guess and assume that most on this forum have more than one bike and have more than one bikepacking bike. What do you do for your kit? I know the setup will largely dep...

Re: Travers Ti frames - pay what you can afford.
I'm genuinely interested in this outlook and where it comes from. Maybe newer standards are better, do the bearings press directly in to the frame/metal interface? I guess that was the point of my initial message. The standard doesn't define how it should be implemented. It sets out the parameters ...

Re: Travers Ti frames - pay what you can afford.
I just see PF as a cheap option. I'm genuinely interested in this outlook and where it comes from. From a small volume builder perspective, I'm pretty sure the material cost is higher with a PF frame, I know I was paying more for either raw tubing to make the BB shell or in fact if I was buying fin...

Re: Travers Ti frames - pay what you can afford.
Worth pointing out that his newer frames have a N47 BB shell, and trying to get one of those to fit an mtb crank is "interesting" at the moment. I'm pretty sure I managed to buy the only one in the country to fit SRAM DUB, and that took a few days to find. Assuming you mean T47, what are ...

Also, remember the ideal chainline depends on what rear sprocket you're using (splined or screw-on) and there's also a built-in offset so you have a few mm of adjustment by flipping the sprocket round.

Re: Travers Ti frames - pay what you can afford.
The issue with the threaded standard (which I have nothing against) is that it's not as well suited to modern materials (CF, thin wall large diameter steel and aluminium). If we were all still riding around on skinny steel tubes I'd be on your side. Steven, that's the first argument I've heard in f...

Re: Travers Ti frames - pay what you can afford.
Except Pressfit isn't proven junk. There are some awful implementations of it but done properly, PF is a perfectly fine standard. Bashing brands that can manufacture correctly is fine, but bashing the standard makes no sense. Because it's easier to get a Chinese factory to produce things with less ...

Re: Veer belt drive.
Just to note that it was never Gates that wanted to approve frame designs, it was Rohloff (if using a belt). That's interesting, as in the alignment and stiffness is more about the hub than the needs of the belt? Yeah, I maybe worded that wrong. Rohloff were (are?) just really precious about the sy...

Re: Veer belt drive.
I’ve long wanted to convert my Rohloff to belt drive. The pandemic and the wonderful chance to work almost continuous 12hour shifts since Christmas has bumped up my funds so I’m going to go for it. My original thought was to get a seat stay splitter fitted +/- a paint job and then run with a Gates ...

Re: who rides Ti ?
i think my reasons for wanting a Ti bike are very different from most peoples reasons. lightweight stuff is of no use at all when you weigh 20 stone plus. any ride zing/ping/magic is lost when your weight kind of flattens the ride. my sole reason for wanting Ti, is because i am trying to get to as ...

Re: who rides Ti ?
are there any American built Ti frames ? I had Sean Chaney ( Vertigo Cycles ) build me a Ti fatbike frame. Given that I'm a framebuilder, it was quite a jump for me to get someone else to build it for me. Especially someone on the other side of the planet. I couldn't recommend the process highly en...
