Re: Bivi bag only?
I have also been giving this much thought over the last couple of weeks ever since I ran across Borah gear from another thread here. They have a 'super bivy' which eliminates the need for a tarp. Finally I decided on a set up that includes bivy, tarp and tent. My tent has been modified so I can pitc...

Re: Bearstock convoy
Very little off-road, certainly not much on route 8 up to here.
I will look at heading NW to pick up WC2C route from Newport.
Just for ref and a back up did someone say there was a canal running across to Swansea?

Re: Bearstock convoy
Just a very cursory glance at maps etc and getting 120 miles from Bristol Parkway via Route 42 and NC Route 8. Not done any research as to what they are ie on/off road. I can get a Cardiff train from here in Devon so as a contingency might go direct to Newport on say Thursday travel a bit north and ...

Re: Another Garmin Question.
If you look at the Tracks and Routes using the ETrex are they not named correctly there? No they arrive into basecamp with whatever name they were generated with usually a date. I give them a sensible name and generate a route then after I tx them back to etrex they become 'route track or waypoints...

Another Garmin Question.
(Maybe we need a new heading for Garmin or a seminar weekend.) Can anyone explain how the etrex file naming works please? I did have a problem communicating with my etrex and basecamp that I think is now resolved where basecamp would flash up a message that it ‘cannot transfer routes or waypoints’. ...

For those of us with commitment issues is there a 'make your mind up' date?
Obviously you need to know how many are coming and special dietary requirements ( ) but what will the cut off date be?

Bin there done that and finally made some sense of it. First go here and download. http://www.rambler-info.org.uk/gps/howto/index.htm I have a default 'downloads' file on my computer which is the default for all down loads. In this I have a .gpx file so whenever I am wandering across the interweb an...

Bearstock convoy
Just floating this as and idea.
If I was going to Bearstock might catch train to Bristol and ride from there.
Have not checked route/mileage or time required but could possibly meet up with others along the way?

Re: B and M Lumotec experience?
When I ran across the B&M IQ2 I thought this was a very good idea. A bit more digging and ran across a thread on CTC forum about the cache battery life. Seems the early version of the IQ2 had a duff battery design and was corrected very quickly by B&M. The forum dates from about two years ag...

Re: Dynamo hubs - not SP/exposure
I looked into this sometime ago and do not have information to hand - so could be wrong. From what I remember Shimano and SP have dust seals to protect the bearings and neither claim protection against ingress of water. SON claims protection against water ingress but do not remember under what condi...

Re: whats on your back, jack?
Many years ago I used to cycle with a 60l pack. I was going climbing so cycling only got me to where I needed to be quicker. Depending on time of year there could be ice axe crampons and 2 x leki poles strapped on the outside. Currently have Vango Hydrotrax which I think is about 15l and a waist pac...

If you decide to go for one of theirs give me a shout as I might want to tag an order on.

Re: Fat Bike Mudguards
Been thinking about this myself and considering butchering/modifying an SKS Velo 65mm rear mudguard. The idea is to secure the mudguard using the cross member between the back stays and same on the chain stays. If you dont have a tapped hole available use pclips looped on the cross piece and secured...

On a slightly different tack can anyone suggest a lock on soft grip about 150mm long?
Ideally longer that can be cut down to custom length.

Re: Dynamo Lights & USB charger
B&M are also doing a light with a cache battery IQ2.
There is also the thingy that fits inside the steerer and replaces the headset cap.
USB is not weatherproof but people seem to be able to use it if you use some thought.
My ideal set up at present would be Son28 with B&M light and ewerk-usb.

I feel so lame getting fricking freezing last night on the way home in the South East. It was sleeting quite hard and my face hurt, fingers wet through cold and not happy. What I actually meant was the Custom Jones Grips I confused myself there for a moment.
I will assume they are the same as the normal ESI grips.
Thanks.

Base Runner 2 bag to replace back pack.
Camel .75l bottles with flip top fit right in so have choice of .5l or .75l.
Just need to dive into the darker corners of the back pack and see what is in there that I can do without.
