Re: New Bike Day

Bikes aren't dangerous, it's people you need to watch out for. I’d go as far as saying if you survive the learning curve on a motorbike, the survival skills learned * transfer across to car driving and may just save your skin here and there. And if you spend time on dirt bikes, those skills transfe...

I realised my error when we were scratting around at gone midnight for a bivi spot (having left the pub at 10). They were making it up as they wen...

Re: Anyone follow a strict diet ?

Stuff that has worked for me, not necessarily wrt losing weight - I’ve never needed to lose weight other than the occasional few pounds now and again. But for general well being, I have found a diet with high proportion of fruit, veg and pulses to be beneficial. I also go through phases of fasting b...

I’m in Shropshire hills, just up road from L.Mynd. It’s -5 deg C out there at the moment and going down, anyone out in this area this weekend would do well to have warm kit.

Re: If you've got a phone - answer it.

Nope. If you are limiting your definition of "telephone" to a device enabling spoken communication then you really need to get with the program grandad. Give over, until they stop calling them 'mobile telephones' then that's what they are  Nah, they are soooo much more than a means ...

I deliberately post bugger all about trips and locations. If people can’t read a map they shouldn’t be out there.

Re: How unfit am I?

Last winter after listening to my son who is young and into fitness training, I spent a good bit of time on indoor trainer - a wahoo kicker hooked up to software and tv screen. First time I’ve used a trainer, and my routine was to pedal up one of the Pyrenean cols which I know well - 14km of continu...

It’s the unforeseen consequences I fear*. I’m all for pushing technology if it has spin-offs which will improve life for people in poverty, and if it pushes tech related to how a plan to deal with a slowly cooking planet. But these latest escapades seem to be focused on tourism FFS. * Are they leavi...

I reckon Bezos or Musk are gonna get to the moon, spend first night in their cabin acclimatising, then waking in the morning to find a menu from Chinese takeaway shoved under the lander.

Re: Giving up booze

I’ve never had much trouble with alcohol thankfully. But I did smoke for a few years in my twenties, took three attempts to kick it. Have also had phases of life when I’ve wanted to avoid certain food types, be it meat or processed etc. With OP in mind, a thing which works for me is to realise that ...

As mentioned there is a Go Outdoors at north end of Shrewsbury. the Cotswold in town has closed. there’s a Blacks and a Millets in town. Just outside town there is Salop Leisure, geared for caravans and motor homes but they have some good stuff.

His last position was about a mile from top of staircase with age 14 minutes, so he must be at ...

Re: 'The China effect'

Difficult for UK to adopt the moral high ground, given our history. I reckon likely impossible for UK to be wholly self sufficient without standard of living dropping below what electorate would stomach. I’m a supporter of globalisation, how about UK tries to lead by example - cut arms sales/manufac...
