Re: Going from 29plus to 650b plus?
B+ will have not disimilar bounce to 29+ but the smaller dia will reduce the ability to move across rough terrain and therefore feel rougher. The rolling resistance difference won't be noticable unless you ride both back to back. The main benefits of B+ is more tyre choices and more bag clearance......

I've eyed that route up a few times but never had cause to use it yet so will be interested to see how you get on. A mate has done and also pronounced it a goer but boggy.....
Pretty good way to split the route up actually

Re: Hope pro 4 bearings
The load rating of the stainless bearings is a lot less than a 'normal' hardened steel bearing and I've noticed that whilst the bearings don't self destruct from water ingress, they do wear out, usually after a year to two years depending on which one (the one on the drive side of the hub body usual...

Re: Security zip lock
Aye I've zip tied the bike to a fence rail or lamp post whilst going into a shop before. Its enough to stop someone running away with your bike and they are fiddly enough to make a fast theft tricky.

Re: Reading glasses - a revelation!!!!
Funnily enough, I was just coming too the conclusion that I am going to have to start taking my glasses on bike rides so I can read the map.....
Anyone know of some bikepacking specific reading glasses (or a monocle for TLS)?

Re: jones bars not working...........again
ergotec high charisma stem will get you 2" of lift and are only £30.
The reach of the 90mm one suits loop bars as it puts your hands right on the steerer tube axis.
If you go back to normal bars try Stooge motos or Surly Sunrises - lots of lift and 20 degree sweep.

Re: My Commute (and hopefully yours) !
One of the best commutes I've done was mid January 18. It had snowed most of the night and more showers were due through the day. The 6 miles to the train station were fine just some nice freshies on the one bit of singletrack and the section of cycleway. Leaving work at 4 it was dry so decided to g...

Hmm, if the winner gets to pick the square it may end up still in Wales ad infinitum..... Whatever, any excuse to look at maps so however the format pans out, I'm in!

Re: Bob's First Bivvy
Some form of base layer seems to be most peoples go to PJ's. Nice to change into something dry and clean to help get a decent kip. A down jacket is a nice thing to drag on when you get in your bivvy but a fleece will do just as well, if with more weight. A hat is always a good thing too Other than t...

Re: Bikepacking Food & Snacks
These days I avoid too much sweet gooey stuff on a ride as it gives me gut ache. I tend to eat a cheese, tomato and branston roll, mini pork pies or a Stevens steak Bridie (not available outside Fife, sadly) scone with butter and jam, fruit flap jack with a snickers for emergencies. This may not be ...

At the risk of further chaos, could you nominate a person to provide that weeks grid square for a bit of the old geographical diversity?

Some of the hike a bike will be right up your street Ray  In reality the H-A-B isn't too bad (when compared to, say, the bloody awful drag from Fruid res over to Moffat  ) but there some longish sections of proper techy riding. After the B350 it will be easy! I take it your doing the '...

Nay bivvy I'm afraid but finished off 2019 with one of my best rides of the year. Up early doors, cruised up the A9 to Aviemore, abandoned the heap at the Cas car park and headed for the plateau. https://i.ibb.co/NWMFvPd/DSCF3889-1280x960.jpg Coire na ciste holding the remains of the snow from befor...

Re: Pitlochry/ Blair athol advice
Riverside trail from Pitlochry up to Killiecrankie is a good one and you can loop back via the west side of the river / loch tummel. Rob roy way over to Strathtay is an easy there and back (stick to the doubletrack on the south side) From dunkeld there is a network of tracks to the north up towards ...
