Re: Carrying a foam mat on the bike...?
If it's primarily protection, rather than comfort wouldn't a tyvek footprint to go under the mat be an easier to stow option? Should keep the spiky things at bay for much less bulk & weight?

Ooh John Climber.... Where did you get the BB7 boots from? I was struggling to find anywhere with stock and Fishers haven't replied to my query.... :| Onto my own Postie matters..... The Fargo is getting a spruce up with: (From Planet X) Fresh cables all round 37c tyres (instead of 2x heavier twin-r...

Re: Training thread
But look at your height gain! There's bugger all around here hill wise. In fact I set out to do some hill reps the other day and managed roughly the same height gain per mile I would do on my commute! I dunno if that's because I was using an edge 200 or if strava can't handle a rider going up and do...

Re: Training thread
I went turbo-crazy over Xmas with a combination of new-born baby and crap weather preventing proper riding. Now that I'm commuting to work 10 miles each way most days I'm finding less time for the turbo. There's no science about any of this, I copied a few turbo sessions from Cycling Weekly, etc and...

Me too. I've got a 45mm pair and some 37c tyres on the way for my commute. Realised that the Twin-Rails weigh 890gms each. Decent bit of resistance training there..... I've gone for some guards with a single support to try and route it to the rack mount as the brake mount workaround loo...

They look like the ones I have on my Fargo, SKS bluemels 28" 65mm wide. £21.51 from http://www.bike-discount.de I can fit 2.2 Halo Twin rails under them. I've cobbled a bracket to fit them to the dropout eye rather than fit to the fork rack mount. *edit* The bracket on the front mudguard from t...

Re: Gaiters
I've been wondering about this, as my winter boots keep filling up with water and take an age to dry. I have some gaiters, but have never ridden in them, but walked with them a lot in the "summer" of 2012. Only real problem was that they get very hot. But mine are some cheapo ones, very w...

Re: Outers - continuous or not?
Continuous for me, not really noted any disadvantages. Other than whoever put the cables on my Fargo managed to put a razor sharp edge on every zip-tie he trimmed that at best holes my nitrile gloves, or worse cuts my hand while working on the bike! ~X( I remember when MBUK, etc would slate UK bikes...

Re: New waterproof jacket
I'm feeling fairly disillusioned with waterproofs altogether at the moment. Think I'm going to have a mammoth Nikwax session tomorrow with my current light weight waterproof jacket and my water proof shorts and see how they go this week. Had been considering trying to just get through till next win...

In the interests of balance I found it cringeworthy!
Ride the divide I've watched a few times and will again no doubt. I tried watching this again on Netflix but couldn't bring myself to do it.

Oh yeah, I agree entirely.SteveM wrote:I was talking more about how its been marketed rather than the bike, the bike is just yet another variation on a theme, but the marketing has worked to create a mystique around the bike, and the idea of the weight being upfront is not regular, and makes some sense

Re: New waterproof jacket
I'm starting to get disillusioned with waterproofs not made from Gore-Tex (or eVent perhaps, not had personal experience but I've seen posts on here praise it) and their ability to stay waterproof in the long term. I know this blows your budget, and isn't bike specific, but I've been happy with the ...

and of course you'll be familiar with what Spesh are doing with the AWOL, a very modern and unusual take on a high mileage tourer, lots of video with raphaesque undertones, not a lot of PR, using the net to do their work for them via bloggers etc (prolly for example), maybe thats an option for your...

Re: Do everything rigid 29er fork?
Might get Fargo forks cheaper now the firestarters are out. Salsa enabler does all that and lets you run a spare back wheel iirc.
Exotic forks are a consistent diameter so you could run monkii cages or use jubilee clips. They do all ally ones if jubilee clips on carbon sounds like a bad idea.

Blimey, didn't realise that there'd be such a groundswell of opinion!
FWIW the stuff sac is an ok size, just not all that useful imho. I like Composite's comment that I might just be able to leave everything in one bundle and ram it under the bars. :)
