Re: Any old gear?

I'm 27 so haven't got anything as old as most of the above. I've got one of those cheap flatbed gas stoves that I "borrowed" off my mum (she was a traditional upholsterer and used it to melt animal glue for restoring antique furniture - absolutely stank!) to take to Leeds festival about 10...

Re: Gear cull time - Wildcat, RAB etc

Northwind, I didnt get an email re the thermarest chair - could you send again? Thanks Have sent it again but not sure why it didn't go the first time (in my sent items with the right address). Trying the same thing and expecting different results being the definition of insanity, I'll PM as well =...

Re: Time to put the summer bag away.

I used to struggle with this myself. I'd either fear the worst and get into a winter bag with all my clothes on in summer and wake up in a pool of my own sweat, or try and play it cool (pun intended) and wake up freezing. I'd oscillate between the two. I've managed to mainly damp my oscillations now...

Re: Time to put the summer bag away.

Another thing: I think that's got more to do with the change in temperature. You're bedroom is (presumably) a pretty constant temperature; maybe cools a couple of degrees overnight, which you need to sleep comfortably anyway. Outside it might be 15 degrees (Centigrade, sorry) when you go to bed and...

Re: Off topic: A BearBones lifestyle and minimalism.

I can afford to have silly cars that do less than 20mpg, but it actually costs me less to run over time than next door neighbours boring new euro ecobox that sucks the life and soul out of you  coz I can mend it / maintain it easily and just add fuel - but it also puts a smile on my face, and...

Re: Off topic: A BearBones lifestyle and minimalism.

*goes looking for second hand packrafts* They're few and far between. I've got an eBay search alert set up and haven't seen one on there for months. You'd think it'd be the kind of thing people would buy, realise they've only used it once and then sell off, but I guess they're expensive enou...

Re: Off topic: A BearBones lifestyle and minimalism.

An interesting thread, and something I've thought about a great deal over the last few years (though I can't put my finger on exactly when it became a concern of mine; it seems I've always thought about it). Compared to a lot of people my age (I'm 27) I seem to have quite a lot of stuff. I put this ...

Fourth line of the spec:
Network Support GSM 900/1800MHz
That's Europe/Asia and S. America I think, N. America is 850 I think. If anyone is more authoritative on this, feel free to correct me!

Looks useful.

It's worth pointing out that it's only dual band so don't go buying one to take on the Tour Divide.

Re: Flats or spd's?

Almost entirely flats. Have dabbled with SPDs recently. On road I think it makes bugger all difference so have gone back to flats because less faff. Off road, there are bigger gains, particularly on technical climbs, but bigger potential pitfalls (falling sideways into a pit, for example). I've used...

Re: Drop Bars - What's the Point?

I would like to give it a go, but can't afford to invest in bars plus shifters/brakes until I am convinced Depending on what shifters/mehcs you have, you might consider giving it a go with what you have. I tried drop bars on my tourer and bought cheap set of bars and brifters second hand and set th...

Re: Low budget mini tarp

Great minds think alike! That looks very similar. Granted, it's a pretty simple design and hardly radical. As I mentioned, I'm planning to add a lifter in the same place but I hadn't thought of using the bars as another "pole" (though this may see some non-bike related use too). The pole d...

Low budget mini tarp

OK, more like no budget. I've been trying for another Blue Peter badge. I had an idea for a tiny tarp for fair weather use - just big enough that I can get my head under so I don't have to get right inside my bivvy bag if it rains, and give a bit of shelter from the elements (assuming pitched openin...

I'd like to think that, on the whole, the sort of people who would do guided bikepacking trips would do more good than harm when it comes to instilling a sense of responsibility (to the environment, and the rest of the community they, rightly or wrongly, represent). Of course if this "industry&...

I sent another user a PM which they haven't received despite having inbox space, but that's not in my outbox or sent messages so that could just have been me.
