Re: more pressure on Welsh bivvy spots?
The Gower AONB forum (which acts as an advisory steering group for the management of the AONB) is looking at the impact of the increased visitor pressure experienced since COVID. On the list of issues is what is variously described as wild/fly/dirty camping. It’s not an easy discussion. I guess for ...

I am being hypocritical here… but if you are really suffering; please go and seek expert help. I am useless at asking for help for anything so I know it’s hard to do. But I think it would really be worth it.

I like Voile straps but for loads of stuff a toe strap works pretty well. The non leather ones are pretty cheap.

Re: If you were to buy a E bike ??
I have a Tern GSD long tail cargo bike. I used to think e-bikes were for other people. I happily rode my touring bike all over the place; for work, commuting, errands and fun. The thing is though; I also own and use a car. Anyone that uses a car will have a point on their personal spectrum of journe...

Re: The dodgy tradesmen of old rant
Sounds like a plumbing nightmare! Each had been channeled out of the house into the gutter. Hmmmm. If the gutter drains to a surface water/storm drain you have a bit of a misconnection too. When we surveyed a few areas in Swansea, 10% of the properties were misconnected and were discharging foul/gre...

Re: OT: Opinions, Hillieberg Soulo owners
I don’t have a Soulo but I have a couple of Hillebergs. I also have a few other tents (3 Vaude, 1 wildcountry, 1 Golite, 2 Saunders, 1 MSR, 2 Vango, 1Jack Wolfskin) by way of comparison. Based on my experience, I think they are great tents. I tried a tent from a maker that was kind of placed in the ...

Re: Dartmoor bike laws consultation - 1 week left
I commented on the proposals. I live a long way from Dartmoor but I used to ride there in the 80s whilst at Plymouth university… or rather Poly as it was then. I think it’s worth commenting even if you don’t have a local interest; in solidarity with local riders and because what happens there could ...

Presume this may be what I need for a Sram Eagle DUB boost crank? I'm not yet up to speed with the various offsets, etc: https://absoluteblack.cc/sram-oval-boost-direct-mount-traction-chainring/ That looks like it is the right one. Superstar is half the price but they don’t have 30t in stock in ova...

Can’t you just sew it along the baffle line, fill it with Stans fluid, inflate and shake it about until it seals?

Re: GX Eagle components - stock anywhere?
I may have this wrong but I thought that for 12 sped you could use a Shimano rear mech with SRAM shifters and cassette? There seems to be quite a lot of people talking about this on the web. Some say it works perfectly while others say it isn’t perfect but it will do.

Can you use a 12 speed Shimano rear mech? I understand that they are interchangeable with SRAM 12 speed?

Re: Electric cars - impressive.
. I don't mind a wind turbine but there's always a hidden cost. The company I work for installed nine of the big ones, 2.5MW each. I couldn't believe how much concrete went into the foundations, 80 lorry loads into each base. Then you have to put in all the infrastructure and concrete takes a huge ...

They are also experimenting with dangling big weights down mine shafts… excess power winds them up to the surface with a motor and when the demand is right they generate electricity by letting the weights fall and drive a generator. Like a grandfather clock. Advantages include v quick response, none...

Re: Electric cars - impressive.
There is no green energy. But some methods are greener than others. Pretty much everything humans do, in the modern world, has a negative impact on the earth. ^ this, as they say on web forums… I’m no expert on energy policy but As far as I can tell, biomass will not solve the problem. It may be a ...

Re: Electric cars - impressive.
Whilst the solution to reducing the environmental impact of cars may be to move to electric cars, I am not sure the best solution to moving people around is a always a car. We have to reduce our reliance on cars. EVs may be a bit better but current private car usage is too high to be sustainable and...

Re: Bespoke frame - anyone done it?
^ I had a different experience with my first Ti custom frame, a long time ago now. It was under-built. I worked out the geometry and asked them to use tubes that were stiff enough to descend well on lumpy, fast, tight descents (eg UK hills vs the more open roads I might ride in the Alps), or feel r...

I don't want to think that I'm 'giving up' as I LOVE my packraft. And, yes, it's selling for a decent amount - I hope the next person enjoys ...
