Train for a marathon and you’ll get a lot of half marathons for free during training

Finally got round to starting A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge - I've been meaning to read this for years but never quite got round to it.

Re: Lightweight touring rack | Tailfin? Other alternatives?

An ortlieb quick rack might work for you - you’d just need a set of adapters for each bike and then switching over is painless according to all the reviews

Re: Bivvy curious

My Ti Goat Kestrel is very light but not waterproof on top, little more than a windproof layer. As I've discovered the fun way, it's dependent on a tarp in all but the driest weather.

There’s some Scandinavian spruce trees that are nearly 10000 years old - I think they’re all a bit trigger’s broom though since just like yew trees they produce a new trunk when one dies off

Re: Have tarps lost their popularity?

A tent is easy - it's heavier and less flexible but fairly idiot proof. I've tried using a flat tarp on a couple of trips and got wet both times due to pitching mistakes - I don't doubt if you use one often enough it'll become second nature but I'm only get out once or twice a year at the moment so ...

A pair of trail cross xt cycling shoes so i don’t have to use my clip less pedal shoes even when I’m using flat pedals. At least it’ll distract me from the joys of dealing with a burst pipe in the kitchen overnight.

Since you've got the budget, may be worth looking at the Fairlight Holt. Boutique prices but a very nice looking bike.

Re: Happy New Year, and plans for 2024

My plans are all contingent on the first one which I've got almost no control of: Get the health issues that derailed most of last years plans sorted. WRT - I need to plan my route and kit better this time. TBA - i've got 3 days pencilled in for June for a trip somewhere - Traws Eryri is tempting bu...

I’d recommend resolutes as well, good grip in anything other than deep mud and not too draggy on the road. They’re overkill for pure road rides but I’m too lazy to switch them out.

Re: Recommend me a GPS

A garmin 1040 solar might be your answer (big screen, very long battery life, lots of processing power) but it’s a big chunk of change and unless you’re a racer a lot of features are novelty value only. Personally, I’d go for the much cheaper 540 solar and get the phone out for those occasions you n...

Bobike child seat

I need to make some space in the garage so getting rid of some long disused child bits - the price reflects that it's bulky so collection only from Stafford. Have you tried in a different browser? Have you tried clearing your browser cache? If it’s a css issue and you’re on a windows desktop, there’s a convoluted workaround you can do to inject custom css into the control to give yourself a cursor again but it’s painful since you have to do it on the eve...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...

It's reminiscent in looks of the early-mid 2000s hydroformed aluminium bikes that were all the rage for a while, not that that's a bad thing. Not cheap though. I don't use my full sus at all any more but looking at the price of new ones makes me reluctant to sell it because I'd never be able to just...
