Re: First Dynamo wheel build help!

The setup that works for me is to connect the dynamo to a Kemo rectifier/switch then via a buffer battery to my gps or phone. There have been times when I've plugged a gps in with 20% battery, gone for a ride and come back with it fully charged. The swich also allows direct powering of a Revo light,...

Re: First Dynamo wheel build help!

The different flange diameters means you can build a wheel with different dishing with the same length spokes. If you call Alpkit, ask for Neil Sutton, he'll sort you out.
Another thought, make sure the rim you've found is 32 holes!

Re: First Dynamo wheel build help!

For a budget build to the axle type you want I'd recommend either a Shimano XT or an Alpkit Lovemud. The Shimano is famed for it's longevity and can be rebuilt using loose ball bearings. The Alpkit is based on another more expensive brand where there have been reliability issues although Alpkit say ...

I'll add this one to the long list of threads where the only definitive answer is "move to Cataluña" Others include, why does my drivetrain only last 1,000 mile? Why is my BB shagged? What tyres for bottomless gloop? What am I doing here? How many layers of clothing before I can't bend my ...

Looks like a nice group forming, just waiting for Hux and Chew to confirm. Had my photos back from the chemist the other day, don't know what they've been up to for the last 9 months and I suspect they've mixed them up with someone else's. Can't remember Jase bringing his brother and definitely didn...

Re: Spanish C2C 2018 Hands Up Who's In?

Jamie, so you'll arrive in Barca on thursday 10th at 10.20am with Ryanair and depart on Sunday 20th at 10.40 with Easyjet? We finish on Saturday 19th in the afternoon and given your departure time (the others are not until teatime) it may be sensible to get a taxi with your packed up bike. It's abou...

Re: Spanish C2C 2018 Hands Up Who's In?

Jamie, the flight from Edinburgh to Barcelona should be on the 10th ie Thursday to give you time to get to Tarragona for a morning start on Friday 11th. There is another rider coming from Edinburgh ive advised him to get the flight that gets to Barca at 10.20am as another guy is flying in at 10am so...

Re: Spanish C2C 2018 Hands Up Who's In?

OK, we're in business, thanks to the responses of CycleUK readers, I have reached the number of riders that makes the trip worthwhile. I have had a considerable amount of email chat with the riders who have booked flights and am confident that they understand the nature of the trip and will turn up ...

Re: tubeless advice please

1 trick in addition to the tips above that I've recently used with success on gravel tyres where I'm running higher pressures is to give the inner surface of the tyre a good rub with IPA (not beer) to remove the silicone mold release coating. This coating can prevent the thicker sealants from adheri...

Re: What do you do with your bike bag once you've landed?

There have been a few rumours floating about that CTC bags are no longer accepted by some airlines but on the other hand, when Lee flew back from Barcelona yesterday, the Decathlon we'd sent her to didn't have any boxes so she found a discarded tent at the airport and wrapped her bike in that. That ...

If you don't mind me asking, apart from price, why Bilbao? The Atlantic side of Spain is very different to the Med, especially at this time of year. Cantabria, Asturias and the Basque country were on the tv here the other day showing feet of snow, traffic chaos etc. The temperature in the hills is -...

Re: Spanish C2C 2018 Hands Up Who's In?

Jaimie, I'll start with the easiest one, Ryanair fly to Barcelona from Edinburgh, you'll need to come the day before ie 10th to start on the Friday morning. Return on the 20th from Bilbao with Easyjet. Riding a CX bike, depends what sort, if it's a full on racer with 30mm tyres, fragile wheels and 3...

Re: Spanish C2C 2018 Hands Up Who's In?

Seems the saying "If you build it, they will come" isn't sufficient these days. I can't believe that even in the gig economy that obtains in 21st century Britain, people are so chaotic as to not be able to book a week's holiday in May. Stu, you know more than most, that these trips don't j...
