Re: Hammocks.

I used to use a mat when I got my first hammock which was fine but when I got my first underquilt I vowed never to use a pad again. It's just so much more comfy and theres no fear of the mat popping out from you in the middle of the night.

Re: Hammocks.

Sleeping bags work as a topquilt but as your compressing the bottom of the bag its becomes useless hence the underquilt to hang below the hammock and the topquilt for, er, the top.

Re: Hammocks.

A lot of hammock manufaturers give their products weight ratings.
Hennessey do one for the bigger boys and I'm sure Warbonnett do too.

Re: How concerned are you about weight?

Having light kit is the aim for me but I do try to justify the extra spendy stuff for the savings in weight. If, say, a sleeping bag was costing £180 and there was a better version saving 100g for an extra £20/30ish, thats fine but anything more than the £20/30ish and i start to struggle with the ju...

Re: What constitutes a 'long' ride?

There's a lot of folk on STW that think a lap of W2 is epic. They are generally overbiked for the route and can't ride for toffee but talk a good game.

Re: What constitutes a 'long' ride?

Short ride, around an hour. Medium ride, upto 4 hours. Long ride upwards of 4 hours I suppose. Depends on the terrain aswell I suppose as lots of big hills make it harder so some folk will put that down as a long ride even though the distance may only be small. Did 46 miles, loaded, on saturday in j...
