Re: Ascent... by GPS (Edge 800)
If you made the assumption that it was a linear change over the time and you had the raw elevation record then it would be fairly easy to apply a time based correction to each value and then recalculate the total climb.
Seems a lot of hassle though.

Re: bikes on planes
Ryanair etc are fine if you understand what you are getting (a seat on a plane) and play by their rules. anything extra you pay for.
BA etc are also fine if you understand you are paying for a whole load of stuff you probably won't use.

The best camera is the one you have with you.
I have an RX100. its great but more often than not I don't have it with me. 90% of the photos I take are on my phone.

I needed a set of link pliers anyway, 10 spd ones I could just about do with my fingers but 11spd ones are even harder.

I’m a sucker for a well designed tool and flush from a PPI payout I just ordered one of these off the back of the bikepacking review. Surprisingly reasonable $5 international postage too. https://www.bikerumor.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Wolf-Tooth-Components-master-link-combo-pliers-6-in-1-multi...

As for bike handling, our WRT2016 group hammered round most of Nant-Yr-Arian Summit trail with full gear on and I don't remember anyone not being able to satisfactorily "rail", "send", "nail", "smash", "carve", "clean", "gnarl" (...

After a very piss-poor turnout of voters, we have a tie in the photo comp. Congratulations to both Jameso and Bob who are joint winners with 4 votes each ... prizes on their way in due course fellas. Well done to everyone who submitted a picture and to the 3 of you who voted I voted!!! :-bd twice?

Re: Which rucksack ?
Genuine question, why would you need a rucksack? I’ve found them to be horrible, sweaty and uncomfortable at best. Unless you foresee extensive bike carrying I’d rather pack it on the bike. I came to bikepacking through road touring and have gradually weaned myself away from the ‘what if’ items and...

Re: Another reason not to have a fire
I wonder if you can steal water?! I have a feeling that water in rivers etc belongs to the crown ... you can own 'the river' but you don't own the water in it. Might want to ask United Utilities about that  they will have an extraction licence. there are long running arguments in the kayaking...
