Fair enough.
I'd pop to John Lewis, do you have one in sunny Cataluña.

Re: Anyone tried putoline chain wax ?
Thx all, interesting contrast between bb views and STWers.
Reading that stw post it's not for Lancashire winters, at least not for rides more than a few hours. It'd spend more time in the fryer than on the bike.
Perhaps I'll reconsider when we get that long dry summer.

Anyone tried putoline chain wax ?
Is it worth the faff ?
How long does it last ?
Is it good for winter & summer ?
It's never been on my radar before.
I used to be a squirt user but lost heart when winter started, been using a good old greasy winter sticky oil since.

Tony,
Where abouts are you?
I could loan you some Jones risers to try if you want. I am located near Blackburn.
PM if you are.

My vote is for bivvy.
A harder choice might be what direction, personally I prefer clockwise.

Re: orbea OIZ Tr - any experience ?
Seen your posts before about the Occam & it looks great. Not sure though I fancy the new one (for bikepacking) though. I too use a Ti fatty or a krampus at the moment as my two choices, but they are my only bikes so looking at something a bit more 'fun'. I keep switching from something like the ...

refilling gas cans
following on from the cooking stove reccomendations I see Lazarus mentions refilling his/her cans.
What do you use Lazarus or other people & how safe do you find it ?
Have you nearly died ?
A quick google lead me to the G-works Gas saver in various versions.

Re: What's the best rear red light please
i'm another against super bright rear lights.
But my advice - get two lights - there's always that day when one of them stops working.
Those £8 little USB lights from decathlon are surprisingly good, especially as a backup

Re: Budget winter bothy mat?
slight hijack... There was a kind gentleman at the #jennride giving away (for a charitable donation) rolls of some thin stuff for lying on to keep the moisture out. I remember there were instructions for it to be one particular way up - but for the life of me ...... hijack reason - because I thought...

Re: Do I 'need' a fat bike?
I love my fat bike as some here will know , climb anything, go anywhere. The one terrain they don't like is rock/bouldery downs like Edale cross to Hayfield. As for snow that can be hit and miss. Most often English snow is too warm and wet. The beast from the east snow was 100% perfect. As Whiteston...

Re: Waterproof shorts & trousers?
MT500 waterproof shorts for too - fab, they make all the difference for a winter ride - a nice warm & dry mid rift.
Mine are the shorts (as in above the knee), they also do a just below the knee option if you prefer the jodpurs look but I prefer the freedom.

bikes with super short stems & a Jones bar
if you were (uncool) to put a Jones bar on a bike with one of these modern short stems that would put the bars way back & be daft. If you then changed the stem for the appropiate length that moved the bars forward would that give the same/similar riding position as the short stem & a 'normal...

Carbon vs alloy wheels. Worth it?
So my fatty has carbon/tubeless wheels and I wouldn't have it any other way. But I've been looking at 29er and 650b+ carbon wheels and I can not see the justification. The weight gains compared to something like the hunt wheels is rarely better than 250g total for both wheels making the £/g cost ver...
