Re: Not getting out there, wasting time (and my life) instead
Yeah, that's a tricky one. Whilst it doesn't quite seem as bad in my case, I recongnise myself in many of your words Rockbus. And yet... I manage to drag myself out regularly to still the deep rooted curiosity. Mostly alone. Sometimes spontaneous (even a Iceland traverse in wintry conditions), somet...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Nobody had any CFs this week?? I was too busy at work to even think about it, will need to do a couple more hours this morning to catch up on absolute essentials, then very cheery as I have a week off  Will be quite a varied one with an outdoorsy Snowdonia weekend starting later today, then a...

Assumginly Yeti has ever since been without any brand name complaints from the abominable snowman. Which in different regions of the Himalayas has different names anyways. Such an unorganised bunch... Eg. chumong, cheti, nyalmo (only those I can think of, but there will be at least 20 more names). M...

Yeti (cycle, CO, USA) had "an issue" coming from Change.org; they (change.org) 'petitioned' to force Yeti to stop using the term Yeti "tribe" (owners group).redefined_cycles wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2023 2:13 pm Will if it's found that the Yeti feels offended. I'd be offended if I was a/the Yeti

Re: Iceland Divide 2024: need advice on tent, sleeping mat and stove
Getting everything from Extremtextil the material costs where round about 110 €. Bear in mind I have to make two quilts, if I buy if from Spain, it's 380 eur (12 meters of 7D + 5 meters of Apex 200) including vat and delivery. I can save 21% by ordering from UK but then I have to pay uk vat plus cu...

I don't pay to join Air BnB or booking.com, I just pay to book a campsite or room. Indeed and with that payment you pay fees. I just recently saw a 24.- CHF fee on AirBnB, was about 10 % of the total price. Givem 5 years to realise that they could offer two versions: annual membership with reduced ...

Schwalbe Wicked Will new in Schwalbe's lightest mtb casing option - "Super Race", yet the second grippiest compound - "Soft".
Unpectacular for most. Quite exciting for me though
Given their latest releases followed suite by availability, this should be in shops soon.

You may not needed for Apex, but I suggest going with calendered fabrics. They tend to work better with humidity, wind and dirt.
I'd probably rather go with a calendered 10D than a non calendered 7D.
If you don't mind ordering from DE, check out Extremtextil.de. Fantastic shop.

Not only would I, but I did on all (3) quilts I made and said liner bag. My go to winter bag is also completely from 7D as are some of my and my girlfriends down clothing. So far so good. Except for that time (winter, probably 2018) when I didn't tighten the bar harness enough and the front, studded...

Symptoms are howling brake with no power. It can be improved by cleaning the rotor and pad or burning it off on a a long down hill but deteriorates again in no time. Indeed seems to be getting contaminated by oil from a leaking. I had this on one Shimano brake once, was a BR M775 or M665. Instead o...

If you haven't bought any fabric yet and wondered if 7D (eg the one from extremtextil.de) is up to the task (sleeping bag/quilt/bag liner); yes it easily is. My oldest MYOG quilt is turning 10 in autumn, made a liner too. Especially the liner gets torn and pulled since I use it for almost all trips ...

Sounds alright to me (the Apex 200 choice). Between August and September the coldest nights of 5 trips always were around light freezing. Like 1 - 2 nights per trip across the Highlands. If you tend to use a light weight down or synthetic jacket anyways, you can use it for the coldest of nights to b...

I feel for you. Last... probably 10 months were rather quiet. Had perhaps 2 punctures/cuts I could fix within a minute and forget. Then within 2 weeks 3 cuts, all bad enough they needed a spare tube or sewing (at home). Of course I had forgotten to pack patches since I rarely need them. On the flip ...

Thanks for the updates Shaf. Why not just try and do as much as you can? No numbers whilst you're at it. Just the feeling. Once you feel sub standard, just dig deeper. Then again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. Etc. Until you can't hold yourself on the bike anymore. Just a th...

Re: Tyre Patches
Perhaps don't use it as a front tyre..?
If the cut was long, keep an eye on it. If it doesn't bulge on the first bunch of hours riding, I'd probably relax and keep on using it as if nothing ever happened.
I strongly recommend using the horizontal mattress stitch

So if no better options are available, how about standing it upside down so the metal will have contact with the ground and make a good earth, then make yourself lower than it (sit/lie down). It couldn’t hurt, could it? Same thinking pattern here. Used to do that (where possible) with the climbing ...

Probably about as much good as praying, I imagine, but it made me feel slightly better. What helps me most is to think how I'll be laughing about it in retrospective. Whenever I've had to transport something long I've just strapped it to the top tube in two places. Done this with garden tools, 3m lengths of conduit, etc. Put something between if you're bothered about frame/paddle. Same here. I do it with ski's. Lightweight and rather narrow (for powder ski stand...

Thomas Stevens of course. But... I tend to struggle with getting excited by some person who did something. For me, personally, there's only one person I was looking forward to meet (a couple of times) and asked to sign a photo from a mountain I had tried to climb with "Da war ich nie" (I n...

I don't think being wet plays much of a part. When Thor or Zeus has you lined up, you're f#%^ed. some believe in physics, some in gods  It was a nice spring afternoon. Most petrol stations have meths, it's pink, is called Rödsprit and smells awful. Must have a very special sort of additive. Works well though. You'll definately find some in Akureyri. I read that when wind gets nasty it's better to wait in the tent until it clears even better to schedule your ride i...

I have a bit of a fear of thunderstorms, which I discovered on my (road) touring around Europe I wish I was more like that. I seem to function the other way round and keep telling myself it'll be alright, even whilst I'm getting hit by hail, smell ozone in the air and hear fizzles across the air af...
