Sleeping bag liners

Talk to me about sleeping bag liners people. What do you use, how much do they weigh and what do you think of them? I have the following: Lifeventure thermolite liner from Amazon (£16) weight = 334g. These are our winter liners - very cosy and comfortable as they stretch with you. Downside is weight...

Re: Bamboo feedback.

I wore mine to a New Years Eve do where a young (OK middle-aged) lady attached herself to me and spent a lot of the evening on the dance floor with me. As far as I can remember (and, to be fair, my memory isn't what it used to be), this hasn't happened for a long, long time and I can therefore only...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread

A while ago I posted about the down blankets we had bought. They disappeared from eBay for a while but are back again now. They are quite big and are just a flat blanket, they do not have a footbox or anything. They weigh around 465g and are roughly 152cm x 177cm. We use them just as they are to boo...

'un-ultra' - thanks for the reassurance Steve . An antonym for 'super' is 'inferior' so we need to invent some inferiorlatives to allow us tramps to counteract all these OTT words in the other direction. For example instead of ultra-racers we could be middling-idlers or mediocre-wanderers. S...

Re: Barry's new film.

That looked like fun. He carries an awful lot of stuff though for just a few days away. Looked like a 20l front bag plus 16.5l Orlieb saddle pack, plus wee cockpit bags. We were five weeks in Spain with no more than that, but he has two fork bags too.

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

Thanks that's nice to hear. How old is your boy? Mine has been to ten bothies now but greensykes is still his (and my) favourite. He is 11. Greensykes was his 3rd bothy. Ruigh Aichean is his favourite. He's keen to try more bothies and wild camping this year. I'm glad he still wants to hang out wit...

Re: I was cold last night

You don't say whether you have used a silk bag liner. While are pricey (£30-£50) they are generally regarded as adding a degree or two to your bag for little weight or carried bulk. They also keep your bag cleaner for longer and reduce frequency of washing down - never a simple operation! £25 from ...

1/1. Rode with my son from Eskdalemuir to Greensykes bothy following Ray Young's Borders 220 route. Bothy was rammed. Rode back to Eskdalemuir today under blue skies. Caught up with Blair512 and family at bothy. Great start to our BaM campaign. Someone has posted on FB that they left their camera a...

Re: I was cold last night

I use a quilt in warmer conditions. Can't you just use the quilt on top of the pipedream in cold weather? That's what we do. We have 900g 3 season down bags with 400g of goose down but in winter we also take a down throw each with us. These weigh 450g (so probably contain about 200g of down) but ke...

Wanted: 13l Airlok dual front dry bag - yellow or red

I know this is probably a long-shot as this is the bag most people here use so unlikely to be up for sale, but I just thought I would ask in case anyone is looking to sell one.
I am only allowed to get one in yellow or red

A bothy in Wales

We are looking to stay overnight in a bothy in Southern Wales in a couple of weeks time. We will be staying close to Newtown so one from the cluster to the west of there would be ideal. We will be riding with friends of ours who are new to bikepacking so we don't want to put them off with a difficul...

Sorry that I'm a bit late to this party, but there is a route from Hawick - Craik - Greensykes - Eskdalemuir and return to Craik and Hawick on our website... It's a cracking route and Greensykes is a lovely bothy. It is unavailable the weekend of the 16th of March 2019 due to a work party though. ht...

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

The brakes on our car failed on the way to work on Monday morning so we had to turn back and put the car in the garage. No way to get to work by public transport so what could we do with the unexpected car-free time....? With snow forecast for later in the week it felt like the ideal time to nip out...

Re: WANTED: PANNIERS

My son has an Alpkit 13l bar bag and a 2.7l Ortlieb saddle pack on his bike. Those work well and are not that pricey either. They are a lot lighter than racks and panniers. The Ortlieb pack works well on a younger person's bike as it has a bracket fitting under the saddle which holds it still and hi...

I thought he was talking about Bunny's - which was what your answer seemed to relate to Ray. It's not a proper bothy - more a private shooting lodge from what I can gather. They used to leave it unlocked but reports of late have been that it has been locked. Like Ray, I would be interested to hear w...

Re: Hello

If you put the bike in a box the baggage handlers will lie it flat on the trolley and then pile all the cases and other bags on top of it. This can do a lot of damage to the bike, particularly vulnerable areas like the derailleur. If you wrap it in plastic then it is an awkward shape for the handler...

Just as an aside all the pass through batteries I've had have died, I don't think it does them any favours. I just have two smaller batteries now and plug in my devices when they get to about 20%. Thanks for that. Do you remember the brands of any of them? I have had this sort of issue with chargin...
