That is pretty much exactly where we were isn't it! Imagine experiencing something like that while cocooned in a bivvy bag

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Cafe in Cwmdu was shut?? I'd only recently rediscovered it and decided to make it more part of my regular haunts... Unfortunately yes. Apparently the long road closure a little while back and an upcoming rent increase meant they had to close. But... they have opened up again in Talgarth so I ...

Well, it looks like I missed a fun ride gently rolling along canal sides and disused railway lines, pausing at cafes and hostelries to partake of refreshments, and comfortable repose at exclusive chambers

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

February BAM started on Saturday afternoon in Crickhowell. The forecast for cloudy but dry weather with a gentle breeze proved accurate as I set off up into the Black Mountains past The Hermitage and up the track into the hills. I had a couple of bivvy spots in mind but was becoming wary of the ever...

Thankfully, being colour blind, all my Exposure lights are pre-traffic lights. Having said that, it's a good advert for them that they're all still going strong. The oldest is a Race model purchased at a Mountain Mayhem event, possibly 2007?

I'm just imagining the conversation... "What shall we do Valentine's night darling? Shall we buy in and settle down in front of the fire with a nice bottle of wine?" "Oh. Er...." "Oh, er what?" "Well... I was planning to spend the night out on a Bivvy..." &quo...

Just to chuck my two-pennyworth in ... The night is part of the day in which it starts; e.g. Monday night is the whole of the night at the end of Monday, Thursday night starts late on Thursday, and so on. On a Wednesday morning if you've just arrived at work after a bivvy out you don't say "I s...

I'll keep an eye on this too. I have one somewhere, probably in a box in the back of my lock-up. I can have a look over the weekend if the other guys don't come up trumps.

Re: Do you remember your first time?

I don't really remember my first time and it would not have been bikepacking as we know it. As kids (single digit years) a gang of us would ride out and camp in the woods on a few occasions. No tents, just bed rolls like our heroes in the Saturday morning cinema cowboy films. Our mums & dads mus...

Will be listening to some Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young later. Too many musicians from 'my' era dying lately  Last week I was remembering going to see Jeff Beck performing as part of the 'power trio' Beck Bogert and Appice at the Alexander Palace back in the early 70s; also perform...

Well, I take my arse to bed with me inside the sleeping bag and have (just about) survived so far.... The gas in the canister is odour free but has a 'stench' added to it so has a pretty powerful and noticeable smell, especially in an enclosed space; maybe enough to wake some people. I do wonder a little what effect this is likely to have on those who arrive late, leave early, abide by LNT and aim to be as 'stealthy' as possible - after all, not having a legal right to wildcamp hasn't stopped people from doing it outside of Dartmoor  I agree.
