Yeah, all off-road would probably be too big an undertaking for the time I’d have available.
The divide route sounds great but it’s going on the wrong diagonal across France.
Any trip is just in the dreaming phase anyway and I may do something totally different anyway.

French end to end?
Is there a published French LEJOG equivalent - off road? I may have the chance for a medium term trip next year. One idea would be taking the train to Turin doing TNR then off reading back through France and heading for a ferry port for a boat to Portsmouth or Plymouth.

Added some Togs thumb grips to the loop of my Jones-a-like bars. No idea if it will help at all but I find the concept intriguing and I saw a used pair on eBay. Partly I hope they will stop me obsessing about adding a Gnarwhal extension to the bars. https://share.icloud.com/photos/02XbCORvy_AhmJyz5...

Re: Any lightweight sleeping bag deals going?
Maybe just go for a silk liner and bivi Shaf. Devon has pretty much a Mediterranean climate and Dartmoor is bathed in sunshine for over 300 days of the year.... Back in the real world - unless it warms up significantly in the next two weeks a -5 rated bag would be a good choice. If I was out t...

Re: Decanting Smidge into smaller bottle
It's not decanting. You're not separating a liquid and solid. The word you are looking for is move. This is up there with people confusing literally, and figuratively. Not really. Common usage has moved the word away from such a strict definition: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/decant

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...
Not strictly bike gear... but I’m normally a serial user of Sugru for repairs and bodges for everything including bike stuff.
This looks like a decent alternative and I’ve wasted more than a few packets of Sugru that have gone off before I’ve had a chance to use it.

Now then... Just got back from work. Bought the missus flowers but they only lasted for about 1 hour (actually less) before I'm in the doghouse for not completing the loft already :o But before I ended up in that house, I managed to get a few more bits done Alhamdulillah... https://i.imgur.com/7ukN...

Maybe this at the fork:

Or this in your helmet

Sjs cycles are always good for stuff like this.

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...
DOH and facepalm[aand thanks] I guess the issue is getting one where the inputs are waterproof which i guess is not actually possible Great light though and I bought based on what you said about them. Power Traveller do (or did) a power bank that has waterproof ports when nothing is plugged in (it ...

Re: Super Boost.
The newer Krampus' with (gnot) boost seem to fit max 34t (which is what I'm running on mine, MY2017, and it's already tight), have a simpler yoke (surely quite a bit cheaper to make) and the boost front still asks for some tyre wiggling. No idea if the chain stay became shorter though. I forgot to ...

Re: Pacing yourself on long days.
Not much more to add to the above except this: As you aren’t ‘racing’ avoid comparing your progress to that of other riders. Let people go off into the distance if that’s what’s happening and relax as much as possible. Getting stressed about how fast/slow you are or how far or not you have gone can ...

Re: What bottom bracket do you use?
Not that this helps the debate but I recently had a Royce BB fitted with new bearings. I had to send it to Royce for them to do and it wasn’t cheap. As the original set lasted nigh on 20years and many thousands of Kim’s I think the expense is justified.

Re: Super Boost.
Given that boost clears 29 x 3 fine, and the industry is running away from 3" tyres, why?? And what does that make 197 x 12?? My old Krampus fits a 29x3” tyre and 36t chainring into a 135mm QR rear without a problem. The front tyre needs to be coaxed passed the brake calliper on the 100mm fork...

Re: Fat Fighters 2021
The no water part is harsh. In the context of cycling it’s worth remembering that right up into the 60’s the commonly held belief was that ‘too much’ water during exercise was a bad thing and that it led to cramps. TdF cyclists would often be limited to a single piss bottle for an entire stage of th...

I've also got an EE quilt and the strap design on them is simple and effective. They really do make a big difference on colder nights if you move about a lot. The EE is strap design is a massive improvement to the Cumulus quilt I had previously, it was way too much of a faff to get set up so I neve...

Re: Pairing quilt with mat?
I have an EE quilt that has a foot box that zips up and straps to hold it in place. Essentially, the colder it is, the more I close it up and strap it down. As a pretty wriggly side sleeper I appreciate the straps holding everything in place and stopping drafts. When it’s warmer I’m not so fussed ab...
