Re: Charging Garmin Edge 500 Whilst Recording

Some Garmins seem to have a problem with recording long rides so worth doing anyway. It's funny you should say that as the only time my 500 has failed to save rides is when they've been long ones. I thought this was just bad luck. I did a 75 miles round trip from the Island to Swanage and back and ...

Charging Garmin Edge 500 Whilst Recording

I've read the previous threads on charging an Edge 500 whilst recording and thought I had understood the issue so purchased a data-block adaptor, this one http://www.portablepowersupplies.co.uk/portapow-fast-charge-data-block-usb-adaptor/ but even with this in-line as soon as I plug the battery in t...

Re: Red Bull

The well known area of remote wilderness the Isle of Wight came second on the list, although the section of forest they recommend is surrounded by areas used for game shoots in the winter and that includes parts of the woodland in the book, which is privately owned. The game keeper is not the friend...

It never ceases to amaze me that the 'youths' I see in town drinking energy drinks (usually the brands that come in the massive cans) seem to barely have the energy to lift the cans up, or even pull their trousers up properly

Re: Tour Divide Musings

That's the best answer I could hear  I've thought the stretches might not do anything but have just done them as I always have after runs. But I don't after rides and my legs don't seem to be any better/worse the next day than after a big run, so I can stop stretching.

Re: Tour Divide Musings

Do any of you do any post ride stretches etc. at the end of each days riding? When I go for a run, even for just 30 mins, I always do my set of stretches, I don't know if they do any good but it's just habit now. But when I go for a ride, even what I would call a big ride, 60 miles with 6000 ft clim...

Re: Tour Divide Musings

Thanks for the advice, that's calmed my nerves  We actually went there for the session earlier in the year but it was cancelled at the last minute as condensation from the roof had dripped on the track overnight and made it too dangerous to ride. The instructor said that with beginners if som...

Re: Tour Divide Musings

I have ruled it out as being any use for me, it's more just out of interest to see if it works. I might still drill and old cog to try it. I've never ridden a fixed wheel before but I'm booked in latter in the year for a session at Calshot Velodrome so some experience of fixed wheel riding might be ...

Re: Tour Divide Musings

I had a new brake disc to fit to the bike last night so I took the opportunity to try the wheel in the wrong way round. With the disc removed and the wheel back in the chain line, on this bike anyway, would seem to be ok if a cog was bolted where the disc used to be. This would depend upon what cran...

Re: Tour Divide Musings

It took me a while to get my head round it when I started building wheels. For the first few when I was correcting the dish to centre the rim I managed to tension the spokes on the wrong side and made it worse  I still have to stop and think which set to tension, then check in my mind, then ag...

Re: Tour Divide Musings

Isn't the rim centred over the axle? On all the wheels I've built I'm sure they are as I don't measure the 'dish' just use a gauge to check it's the same both sides. I've never broken a spoke (yet) but I don't normally carry spares anyway so if I did I'd just tape, cable tie the bit stuck in the hub...

Re: Tour Divide Musings

that bolt on cog is a great idea! Can't picture how chainline would work, and would you have to remove the brake calliper so the cassette doesn't hit that (or you'd need spacers if you're taking the cassette off) I'd never thought about the details, just saw a shiney cog and thought 'I want one of ...

If you don't wear a pack of any type then I guess there is only the bike to mount it on. When I go out running, for anything under about 15 miles I don't take anything with me at all, no pack or phone and I also ride without a pack when I can (tools and spares on the bike and food in the jersey pock...

Tour Divide Musings

Firstly, well done to all who have finished the Tour Divide, it's worn me out just watching the dots at times so how you have the drive to get up day after day and get back on the bike is truly inspiring. As I've been following the Tour Divide and reading the thread here and other discussions I've b...

Re: Bolt through axles

They are also usually specific to the frame so be careful not to loose it as some replacements are very expensive! My advice is as soon as you've taken the wheel out to put the axle back in so you know where it is. A friend and myself nearly drove off after loading up a demo bike from a local shop w...

Re: Pumps

I've got the lezyne as well, the double ended flexi connector is the best I've used. Only had to use it on my bike once since going tubeless 5 years ago but often have to get it out on group rides when I can't watch someone struggling with their cheap pump any longer.

I wondered where Guy was, then thought he might not want his spot to be used by stalkers to know where he was as endless fans at every town would spoil the experience? so did think he might not be racing under his real name, but can't work out who he's listed as? But then if it was that obvious the ...

Bit of an odd question and I'll understand why if noone answers, but is johnnystorm's real name Nigel? As there's not a johnnystorm on the start list. I don't know him in person and that's not just a random guess, but I did buy a frame off the johnnystorm from singletrackworld some years ago and he ...
