Re: New Bike ?

Oh, and I definitely find it rides best in 650b+ mode over 29er. And I normally have the rigid forks on.

Re: New Bike ?

Hi, Broken Road owner here, version 1 not 2. Fire away with any questions. I’ve the option of running it as a 29er or 650b+, flat bars of Jones H Bars, rigid carbon forks or Rebas. I’ll just query the suggested Kinesis forks you mentioned, I think they might be a bit on the racey side for a bike of ...

Ahh, map case is somewhat knackered.

Considerable amounts of duct tape involved.

Re: Light bag for use with a tarp - it’ll (probably) never be used in foul weather

Ok, I’ve ordered some stuff and I’m going to modify a bag. I’ve an old Outdoordesigns 2 star bag with a reasonably similar closure to this relatively heavy Outdoor Research Bivy that includes a bug net. So I’m going to use the OR bag as a guide for installing a bug net. It really doesn’t look that c...

Re: Laminating printed maps

I’m not sure I have access to an OS map that’ll work on basecamp.

And as I have a subscription, and paper maps already they can get to **** if they think I’m buying another version.

It’s proven easy enough to stitch together Images to make an A4 sheet.

A3 with a donation should be easy enough. Probably unlimited if I’ve cash now I think about it.

Re: Laminating printed maps

Yeh, I was planning on trying that stuff.

Although I discovered OS Maps online limits the area size you can print off. Is that due to wanting to keep the maps to scale?

Re: Light bag for use with a tarp - it’ll (probably) never be used in foul weather

I wonder how hard it’d be to seem seal a bug net and zip into a bag!?

Might not be the most durable. But if it’s easily repairable it’s less of a concern.

Re: Light bag for use with a tarp - it’ll (probably) never be used in foul weather

Is the Snowyside discontinued, doesn’t seem to be on a menu? Although I think that’s 400gm which is as heavy as I want to go.

If the Kloke had a bug net I think that’d do just fine. Depending on how breathable it is in practice.

Re: Laminating printed maps

True,

And going by historical precedents. If it’s really foul I’m probably running rather than biking. Which limits the problem of exposure when changing maps as I’ll be on a laminated 1:25 and a smaller area.

Probably.

Re: Laminating printed maps

It’s become quite quickly clear that using my existing maps is a flawed approach as they’re all for hill running and 1:25. E.g. the relatively short route is planned with Scotroutes starting in Braemar involves at least 4 maps. I think I’ll be printing 1:50 and using the film type stuff first. Hopef...

Am I right in thinking the Borah is a bit slippery? I tend to shift around quite a bit.

Edit, just read the above.

So yes, needs some work if I go the Borah route.

Whilst I’m thinking about it.

I’m 6ft, and need the head area to have the option of being open, with or without the bug net.

In the meantime I’ll trawl what I can find on the forum.

Light bag for use with a tarp - it’ll (probably) never be used in foul weather

As per the subject title really. I have a stand-alone bag that’s covers the “keeps me dry* in the ****ing rain when bivvying in a peat bog” scenario. *from the outside at least. What’s the current in favour bags of choice for use with a tarp. Looking for very light, bug net, ideally waterproof, high...

Sonder Camino AL with two sets of wheels for commuting/cafe/easy terrain hacking. The most frequently used bike that works best most of the time. This is the bike with the dynamo for good reason. Sonder Broken Road. Basically a bike for accessing remote (for me) places. Either rigid or with Rebas. T...

Re: Laminating printed maps

The ready made ones from OS are more like sheets of perspex and imo hard to handle, put in a pocket etc.
I think this is what I’m most keen to avoid. I remember on my ML training seeing maps covered in the film being used by instructors. Much easier to manage.
