Re: Viewranger being discontinued.
Any idea what happens after February? Will the app just stop working or will it stop updating but continue to function if you have it installed?? The email that I received says that they're "switching off the app and websites" so I'm guessing it'll just disappear or not function at all.

Viewranger being discontinued.
Well as we suspected, Viewranger is being shut down at the end of February '22 (I just received an email notification to that effect). It says if you've paid for map tiles on Viewranger you'll be able to access them on Outdooractive but we'll have to see how that pans out........

Re: What you done t' your bike today
 10 m behind a van can already make quite a difference. I couldn't sustain it for 2 hrs, but not too long ago I drafted behind traffic at around 40 km/h. 10 m, 40 km/h... yes, it's stupid for many reasons. So lets just forget it... In a previous (cycling) life I was a keen time trial rider and...

Re: What you done t' your bike today
Fitted the Maxxis DHF/DHR tyres that arrived yesterday to my 29er rim/ fat hub wheels. Such a pleasure to fit tyres that just go up tubeless first time with a track pump (in contrast to the WTB Rangers that came off).

A pair of Black Friday reduced Maxxis Minnions (DHF and DHR2) to replace my existing fast rolling 29er tyres since I'm not likely to be doing much bikepacking or endurance riding for the foreseeable future.

What size Rangers are they Rich? I have 2.6 on Halo Vapour rims and they're okay to get on and off. Sounds like it's just a perfect storm combination of tyre and rim on the Rumpus rims.

Re: Fat bike mudguard
Another vote for Fathugger/Mudhugger. I've extended the front with a mudflap made out of the packaging (plastic sheet) that came with an OnOne Floater tyre many moons ago and it's well worth doing. On the rear I had a 29er Mudhugger on my old OOF and it suited it really well due to the shallow angle...

Re: Sonder camino XL sizing
I'm bang on 6' and I ride a Large Camino (V2 titanium), it feels perfect for me but I reckon I'd be okay on an XL as well (particularly for easier stuff where I wouldn't be concerned about standover height).

Don't bother with the Fox ones (whatever they're called). I bought a pair and they're expensive, leaky, cold and mine started coming apart at the seams after one ride. Absolute rubbish.

Re: Tailfin fork mounts.
I think they're talking about adding sprung weight as opposed to unsprung weight. If you add cages to conventional suspension fork lowers you're adding weight to the bit that's moving up and down which in theory will compromise suspension performance. In reality I doubt most people would notice much...

Re: Which tapered dry bag?
I have Revelate Terrapin seat packs (both sizes) that I bought to use with a PDW Bindle Rack. Since I bought them I've bought an Acepac holster from Stu as an alternative to the Bindle (which the Terrapin bags fit nicely) but at the same time I treated myself to the Acepac handlebar system. The Reve...

These from drj0n bagworks https://wildcat.cc/collections/accessories/products/drj0n-barnacle Those work out about the same price as the stainless Tailfin ones for the larger sizes plus the Tailfin ones are a (fairly) universal fit for different diameter forks and they allow the mounting of multiple...

Did anyone else notice these? Looks like a neat (and secure) alternative to the zip tie and jubilee clip methods. [https://www.tailfin.cc/product/cargo-cage-system/sfm/]

I chop and change depending on the conditions I expect to encounter. It's usually a combination of Alpkit ti V pegs and ti shepherd's hooks with the ratio being dictated by anticipated windstrength and ground softness.

Was gonna say that I've got one of those linking things that Lune Ranger linked above and it works great if you're using two poles but that solution is very neat Rich.

Shocking, however I'd take my chances in the countryside any day over wandering about in a city or other heavily populated area given the choice. I'm pretty sure that statistics would back me up in feeling safer in the great outdoors as well.

An 11speed chain, a new 32 tooth cinch chainring and a BB mount chain device to (hopefully) prevent another occurrence of a dropped and mangled chain that happened last week in the middle of nowhere.

Re: OutdoorActive & Viewranger merger:Am I losing my tiles?
I use Viewranger as well and bought all the maps that I needed a few years ago. No way am I paying a subscription to OA, I'll continue using Viewranger until it packs up then maybe try and get to grips with the clunky, glitchy nature of OS maps (which I already subscribe to but rarely use). It's a s...

Re: Probably done to death, but.. What shelter would you recommend?
I have a Gatewood as well and will happily add my vote to that choice. I've spent some nights in pretty wild conditions in the Gatewood and can confirm what Lune Ranger says, they flap and flex a bit but are pretty hardy if the pegs stay in place. Recently I also bought a 3F UL Gear Lanshan 1 from A...

Re: Packrafters - What Paddle
Just another thought, if you think you'll be in the packrafting game long term it's probably worth splashing out a bit on a nice paddle. It's the thing that probably has the most direct impact on your paddling enjoyment and even if you change boats you can keep the paddle. I've done a fair bit of ka...

Have a look on fleabay as well to see if anything is available second hand. I picked up a Werner Camano two piece bent shaft a few years ago for just over a hundred quid. It's the glass shaft model not the carbon one but is still very nice and was a huge saving over new. I bought it for sea kayaking...

Re: Revelate spare buckles
I have some that I bought from the Bikemonger in a cupboard somewhere. I bought them to use with the latest tapered dry bags for the Terrapin system but they don't fit as Revelate have changed the buckles they use on the newer stuff. I'm away on holiday at the moment but when I get back I'll see if ...
