Re: Tent stealthiness Green or Brown
I have a brown 3F UL Lanshan 1, bought it as the green version was out of stock and I didn't want the light grey coloured one as I thought it would stand out too much. The brown one is still pretty stealthy tbh but given a choice I think I'd still prefer green as brown is just a generally unappealin...

Re: Help my wife to sleep
As a cheaper, heavier, bulkier alternative, whatever the latest version of Alpkit's biggest self inflating mat (used to be Fat Airic, can't remember what the new version is called) is very comfy. We have one to use in the pop up roof bed of our camper van and it's pretty good (definitely more comfy ...

Re: What rear light that is not a TraceR?
I bought a Bontrager Flare R a few years ago after reading loads of reviews, it's been fantastic and regularly gets soaked with wet mud, road dirt etc and survives being jetwashed when I get back from riding. They no longer make the version that I have, it's been updated but based on my experience w...

Re: Warm gloves
I had the Galibier Ardennes Light Winter Gloves last winter, and they were OK, in so far as they were windproof and water resistant. They were fine down to 7°C, tolerable with cold finger tips at 5°C, but useless beyond that. They would also eventually wet out in heavy rain, although your hands wou...

Re: Warm gloves
The answer is not pogies. I only want gloves for average Devon cold, 3-10deg. I want gloves. I tried out some pogies and apart from being overkill the ones I tried don’t suit my handlebar/controls arrangement on any bike I own. Watch out for some ‘as new’ HotPogs in the classifieds soon. I'd defini...

Re: Warm gloves
Is the answer not 'pogies'? I appreciate that they're not waterproof given the big holes in them but you generally won't suffer from cold hands. Proper winter game changer in my opinion. I totally agree but I find them off putting for riding techy terrain. I don't really know why tbh, I just do. I ...

Re: Warm gloves
I hate bulky gloves (especially for mountain biking) so would rather risk cold/wet hands over lack of feeling on the controls (yes, I realise cold/wet hands lead to lack of feeling). After a suggestion on here I tried a pair of Galibier Ardennes Light Winter gloves which are pretty good, warmish and...

Re: Winter bike / winterising a bike
Personally think commuting depends on distance. Had a 40 mile round trip ( done twice a week ) and now back to a 20 miler which I do every day. IME the issue with big mile commuting is you don't cycle.for fun. Also ,given it gets the most mileage , I don't see the point in it being rubbish. Yeah, I...

Re: Winter bike / winterising a bike
I ride my fat bike all year round (either with fat wheels or 29ers) but I tend not to ride my full sus bike often during winter in the hope of prolonging the life of the pivot bearings, so I suppose my fat bike is my winter bike. Back when I went temporarily insane and was a roadie, I had a winter h...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
Not really sure what weather the vapour is for Mine gets worn on those cold, dry or only damp days. I wore mine today, 5°c, sleet and hail showers it was fine. With the vents open it doesn't get too hot and it's fine in light showers as the moisture stays on the outer layer and dries as you ride. N...

Re: The post man's been ...
Polaris Vapour jacket and some long Fixies Jacket fit is as expected; roomy enough for a layer beneath. I look forward to a test ride. Is Vapour same fit as Enduro? I have vapour already, love it although a fold away hood would be nice, I can't ignore an Enduro at £15 though! Yeah, I'd say so. The ...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
Hi, for those who have one of the Polaris jackets, are these larger sized? Small more medium or med more large? These seems to good a deal to pass up. I bought size large which is my normal choice. It's a spacious MTB fit on me (not baggy). If I were buying for a road bike I'd consider medium. I'm ...

Re: Viewranger being discontinued.
I've been using the OS maps website a bit more recently (as an alternative to Viewranger prior to the big switch off) and for me it seems to be working a bit better than it had previously. I've recently upgraded to a newer phone which may have helped or maybe they've been working on the software. No...

All I can say is that I bet both dogs were loved and had fantastic lives. Take heart in that. It's really hard losing a dog that has become a valued member of the family. I retired my last working dog home and she and my wife formed a really strong bond. My wife suffers from Crohn's disease which h...

Crap TV, fake sincerity, pressure to eat, drink and spend too much and not being able to do what you want to due to social pressures and conventions, what's not to like?
Merry Christmas everyone anyway.

And dropped off a pair of 100% Brisker Hydromatic gloves. I hate bulky winter gloves while mountain biking and am not keen on using my pogies while riding technical stuff (not sure why really). I usually wear normal Briskers and find them okay even in pretty low temperatures but they're hopeless if ...

We've not had any wire traps yet (thankfully) but our local trails which are used and maintained with the knowledge of the landowner have been sabotaged on a few occasions recently. Although there were no wire traps some of the damage (which has been extensive) would lead to a big crash if you rode ...

New 11 speed XT rear mech on my fat bike/hardtail to replace the battered four year old one that has been subject to multiple rock strikes culminating in the spring failing on it. Nice smooth shifting is now restored.

For me. Favourite trip, The Cairngorms Inner Loop. I rode outer and inner this year and against expectations preferred the inner loop. Amazing scenery, very varied with some fantastic full on techy riding and I did it in great weather conditions which probably helped too. Favourite kit, The Acepac l...
