Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Last gasp effort for me. A few things conspired to give me limited time this month but I got out locally last night. A little rain overnight and struggled to sleep again.

Re: No Sheep 'Til Buxton

Chris, Thanks for that itinerary. From Derby my preferred way up is a train to Matlock and then the White Peak Loop / bridleway to Bakewell and Monsal Trail. I do know some of the tracks but also I know the roads better as they are a summer day ride from home. 15-20 years ago a small group of us dro...

Thanks for the write-ups, enjoyed them. Although I cycle in the Monsal Trail area I never think of heading to Macc Forest area. Got to look more closely at your route on the map for ideas.

Re: What are you reading now?

RIP / thanks for the tip of the other book. Your tmiab trip sounds fun. goditatr - It was already on my list to read and I had started it. I did read TMotB years ago and recall not enjoying as much as the boat trip. The reason i re-read it was that the possibility of a ride from Dresden has increase...

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Their are three VV squares near Wellbck Hall, Worksop, that are on private property which also has a load of camera's around. I have seen a few of them when in the area. Anyway, I have just entered a 10km charity run/walk on May 14th going through the grounds that will certainly get two of the squar...

Re: What are you reading now?

Two books on the go. Three men on the bummel by JKJ that @godivatr mentioned ^ there. Not really enjoying it and may abandon. The other is What Just Happened? By Marina Hyde. It is a compilation of her pieces in The Guardian over the last few years. Just finished the Brexit section and found myself ...

Re: Mapping / routes archive question

I have no comment on how to do what you propose, don’t know enough about it. Last month, when a bit under the weather, I decided to search for the Big Bear route but was unable to find it. ‘Big’ and ‘bear’ were too common words so I waded through a few pages of the ‘Routes’ forum but eventually gave...

John, The Grupello Hotel is central and close to the square and railway station. Last year for a fee you could have a late checkout. We are booked in there. 10km down the road, and over a hill, is The Flandrien in Brakel. Fairly new I think, and aimed at cyclists, a few stayed there last year. Air b...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

I got my bivvy night done at the WE23 staying in Nant Rhys. No photos as I managed to forget my phone. I did see a fabulous rainbow. I effed up in Hafren forest ( partly my rushed route) and took a wrong turning. After realising my mistake I turned back down the forest and saw a fabulous rainbow whi...

Re: Winter Event GR.

Thanks to Stu and Dee for a lovely weekend. I did not ride much in the last quarter of '22 and struggled towards the end of each day. I made it to Nant Rhys with 6 other 'boners and 3 walkers and had a nice evening around the fire. It is great having this weekend to look forward too, normally I woul...

17 of us! I was expecting a few less due to a couple of late drop outs due to health. Thanks for compiling this Phil. Not sure about this year yet, but I am out this weekend so I will see.

I am going after a British Cycle Quest clue near Abergynolwen so heading out past CAT, down to Tywyn and Happy Valley / NCN8 and into Mach for breakfast and then back via Forge. About 100km with a 10km bonus near the endif I am feeling frisky. Weather may scupper plans,I have not looked yet.

Well done Steve and Ben, left it late but they all count. @Ben must be particularly pleasing to achieve 12 months after a couple of years when it did not work out.

Looking forward to final score, looks to be around 10 of us.

Further up this thread from last year, 'champing' got a mention. We watched the 'Inside No 9' Christmas special last night and the set-up was a champing night out. Might have put me off

Re: What does your Christmas look like?

Our side of the family have not done presents for years and it is a great relief. Under 18's are allowed presents though. A niece of mine turned 18 earlier this year so I am down to one nephew, daughter and two grand children. My mother died last month and the funeral was 10 days ago so myself and h...
