Re: Bivvy a month 2019
Talk about trying it on? This was on a signposted bridleway. Ignored, of course https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7847/46133645024_c3eff35749.jpg We've got loads of signs like that locally, but bicycles aren't vehicles so it's not meant to discourage us from using the bridleway but to stop car drivers...

It is an amazing achievement and she knocked 12 hours off the previous record :o I think I read that she only had 3 hours sleep for the whole race! All of this and working full time, being a new mum and her studying, it just shows what can be achieved with the right attitude and determination to suc...

Thanks for the offer but I'm trying not to get side-tracked and start messing about with that bike, much as I'd like to.lune ranger wrote:If you wanted to consider a used one I may have one in the shed.

Re: Talk to me about Rohloff
Rohloff chain tensioner is like a modified rear mech. It's quiet in use, sturdy and wears well. The wheels are replaceable. How does it cope with mud? I like the look of that to ss my commuter/gravel bike. When I was having issues with the tensioners I tried before I discounted it as I didn't want ...

Re: Talk to me about Rohloff
I've no experience of geared hubs but I would say that you definitely need a frame with either track ends, sliding/alternator drop-outs or an EBB. My experience of chain tensioners is that they were just as susceptible to water/mud as a rear mech. When I got my Genesis frame I was going through a 'g...

Cumulus have a custom bag creator on their website so you can adjust the dimensions.

The price updates as you change the spec so you can see how much the changes will cost.

Why not just buy it - its only a tenner and at least John, the author, would gets something for his efforts On the strength of the first few pages I've just ordered a copy of his first book, "The Last Hillwalker" so giving the bothy one away free has gained a sale he wouldn't have got oth...

:-bd I was wondering if it would come out as there were some comments online about lack of submissions. I'm just finishing Volume 9, I had some spare time for reading last week having come off the bike on the commute and having been told to have 2 days off by the surgeon to let the wound heal a bit....

Re: Which Exposure bar light for multi-days?
None of them have a setting for over 36 hrs so the models with bigger batteries will just be brighter. A MaxD will be 200 lumens at 36 hrs A Toro will be 111 lumens at 36 hrs I've got a lezyne with a 100 and 200 lumen setting so I compared these settings before I bought my Toro. There wasn't enough ...

Re: Which Exposure bar light for multi-days?
That is the only issue with the remote yes. I've got a TraceR on the rear. You could just use the button on the Toro to change output levels it just means taking a hand off the bars to do it. If I'm just doing a road ride I'll leave it on the 36 hour setting and plug my red eye in as I leave it on t...

Re: Which Exposure bar light for multi-days?
I've got a Toro Mk 10. I've also got the remote switch for it. Most of the time I'll just be riding along with it on the 36 hour (prg 6 low) setting but the remote means I can turn it up to medium or high as required. As I don't need to move my hand from the grip to change settings I can keep it on ...

Bloody good job you were wearing it  The irony of the situation wasn't lost on me, the one time I'm wearing my SPOT I end up on the floor  I think it's the first time I've crashed on tarmac and I'm surprised how much more it hurts than off road and how much damage I did. Re: SPOT Harness
I tested it on my commute this morning. It actually sits higher up the strap than it looks like it would in the picture, it's very nearly on the top of my shoulder. Three tracking points were received although it looks like one may have been missed out between them, but I've been having issues with ...

The next thing to do is to give it a good test to make sure it transmits ok. I might as well have it on during my commute as I pay enough for the subscription  I did think about mounting it on the back but I like to have it somewhere I can see it so I know it's still there and can see it's wor...

SPOT Harness
My SPOT is usually mounted on my top tube but I'm now using a rucksack for some rides and thought I'd like to mount it on the shoulder strap. I've been trying to think up the best way to do this for months but had a sudden flash of inspiration at the weekend. https://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q56...

Good read that Dave. I knew Chickenlegs had done the route earlier in the year and I've added it to my list.
When you do the section that includes my little Island let me know and I'll ride it with you if you like, I also know the locations of all the good cafes on that part of the route

My last night was in one of the new buildings associated with the hydro scheme just below The Teahouse bothy but that's probably full of machinery and locked now. It was finished when I rode by this year, the lights were on and I could hear the hum of machinery so you'd not get much sleep there now...

Re: Alternatives to glitter as a sealant additive?
I just use ordinary Stans fluid and judging by the number off bits of hawthorn I pull of the tyres and the number of thorns sticking through to the inside when I switch tyres it works well. On the rare occasion the hole is too big for the Stans to seal - 3 times in about 10 years - I just plug the h...

Re: Carbon rims for bikepacking
I think Stu Taylor had carbon rims on the Orbea he used on the HT550 and I'm not aware he had any issues. That might be down to talent (no offence to anyone who has damaged a carbon rim) or luck? I did think about carbon rims for my bike but apart from being stiffer and way more expensive the other ...

I've got similar shirts made by Colombia and Mountain Hardwear. I've also got one I bought in Mountain Warehouse which was much cheaper. Some of them are short sleeved but can't remember which. I've worn them on the bike but only on social rides to the pub but they are sold as 'technical' shirts so ...

Re: Dales Divide.
Just to be clear, I didn't mean to sound negative and I'd love to ride the Dales Divide, but fear it will clash with other events next year. I also welcome new events but without some kind of coordination I fear that events will only last a few years if they clash with others and only get single fig...
