Re: Winter Event entries now open.
On the radio this morning the traffic news said that the road between Welshpool and Newtown was flooded. Something to keep an eye on over the next few days.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
https://www.instagram.com/p/C1E1dz0sD7T/?igshid=ZTcxMWMzOWQ1OA== I wasn't feeling great at the start of the month and went down with an occasional infection which took antibiotics to clear. We are going to Wales for a week on Friday so I had a small window to get out. I couldn't make my mind up from...

Re: My winter event - Freedom Ride for Dr Aafia Siddiqui
Nice write up, certainly an adventurous ride this time of year.
If you look at my latest entry for November in the bivvy-a-month thread the location of the birdhide is about 4 miles south of Ashby. If of interest in future years I can send you directions.

Also spinning some of The Pogues, one of my favourite bands. Yesterday I saw Withered Hand and Darren Hayman do solo shows and a couple of tunes together in Camden Town, a nice afternoon.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
November done. I had plans, lots of them but two weeks ago I came down with a cough which has still not gone away. I feel ok and it is usually a problem late evening or when I go to bed and lie down. Raising my back helps. Anyway with the clock ticking I set off yesterday afternoon to a birdhide I h...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
Canal bridge doss has been done before by myself. Probably last year, I slept under a remote bridge on the Grantham canal hoping not to be disturbed. Up and away early.
Edit:,26/27th March 2022, will be in last years write-ups.

Re: Winter Event entries now open.
Entered. Remarkably I have yet to miss a winter event. My memory of the first one to Mach and back was being the middle of three, and warm, on a ground sheet between Mark and Ken on a night of zeroish temperatures. I am surprised that neither health or bad weather ( being unable to get there) as occ...

Off to a panto in Stoke on the official weekend. Herself’s great niece is playing the lead role of Cinderella so it would be poor form not to attend.

October done but no pictures as I forgot. I hoped to get another overnighter in but it has happened and a samhain ride to a churchyard is not going to happen now My ride was my non finish of the BB200 at the beginning of the month. I realised when I got to the mountain road I did not have the condit...

Re: What are you reading now?
This year I am re reading books I have read in the past. Usually I read a book, put it away and get on with the new one. A couple of days ago I finished the highly entertaining 'My Old Man' by John Major (yes, that one) about the history of music hall. I have just started Wounds by Fergal Keane abou...

Stu: Ha, I am too aware of my lack of ability and try and have a plan before I start.
Riderdown: I calculated 1,200gms of carbs (for 20 hours moving) and taking 1,000 gms to get me to the stop about 3/4 of the way round. Plus emergency rations.

Re: BB200 2023
I think it is water that bothers me most. I am happy taking from clear streams and boiling it but less happy drinking from the streams. It is the second half that concerns me. I don't want to go off route at the western end unless I have to and if I ride through the night I will be at the town aroun...

Toad Hall us ok, a bit basic but the owner is great. We turned up about 7pm, getting dark, with the town full but she did what she could to get us in.
We were very grateful to her.
If really desperate you could put a mat down beside the old Austin Princess Vanden Plas.
