Re: PBP - anyone planning on entering?

@dyffers and @flyingpig - do you both have qualifying rides from 2022 that will allow you to pre-register? I haven't ridden an audax since London-edinburgh-London in 2007, but am hoping there are some spaces left once registration officially opens in June. Got my first SR qualifier (a 200k) booked ...

Re: PBP - anyone planning on entering?

Yes, will be my fourth one.

There's something about it that's different to almost anything else, well worth experiencing if you can be bothered with jumping through the qualifying hoops.

Re: Rigid MTB tyre size..?

2.2 Ikons. 25mm internal rims. Santa Cruz Highball CC with a carbon fork and Jones bars. I usually call it my "UK gravel bike" as it's much more suited to the mixed muddy conditions you get here than 40mm gravel tyres and drop bars IMO.

Re: Spikey ice tyres

Yes these are exactly what you want for roads which may include patchy ice. They are useless in snow, you're better off riding your MTB tyres in powder snow but when does the UK see much of that? The impossible to ride UK days are day 2 after it has snowed then frozen overnight. You need Ice Spikers...

Re: WTD: Cheap as chips 700c road rim brake wheels

If it's a 27" wheel frame I doubt the rear spacing is 130mm, more likely 126mm for a 7spd or less screw-on freewheel hub. You could spring the steel stays out to 130 wide though which would allow some more modern wheels. I have a pair of 6spd screw-on freewheel zipp carbon tubular rims with at ...

Is there such a thing as a "racefit" Outdry?

As per title, the zip has gone and lining failing on my lighter weight roadie waterproof and, rather than getting another similar one that will be dead in two years, I wondered whether there is such a thing as a tighter-fitting less flappy Outdry jacket model? My MTB one is great and seemingly indes...

On one carbon 100mm and QR Postage + a tenner which will go on the bear ( PM if any use ) Longshot but if this turns out to be for a 26er and no good for Sean or Alex I'm interested as a way to lighten my son's XS Inbred currently running an On One 420 or 440 (I forget) A-C heavyweight steel fork.

Re: Car Roof box - takes push bike?

I was drawn into buying a powerful saloon car a couple of years ago. My bike went into the boot with the rear seats down as long as the front wheel and seatpost were taken out but it was a faff and it never even reached 30mpg even going gentle on the motorway. F knows what it would have done with a ...

Re: Flying Easy Jet with gas cannister/CO2/meths in hold bag

I've lost a multitool (that I'd carried on a number of other flights) from my carry-on bag at Bristol airport the other week; apparently an allen key or chain splitter is ok but a philips screwdriver is considered a 'weapon' *sigh*.

Re: Audax. anyone ride em ?

Interesting about numb fingers. I'm not fit this year but managed a 600km in May and fingers were fine, just my shoulders that ached a bit because I haven't done much long riding. I'm not sure what the secret is but I've had more angst getting a comfortable saddle setup than feet or hands over the y...

Ridden down to the park with the kids at 11am, more people out than I expected, mainly blokes with their children, like me happy to have a free day off but slightly grumpy that means they have to entertain their kids. I just wanted to be able to say to my grandkids "was I f*** sitting in...

Hundreds of them over the years, love 'em. First 200km in 2006, 600km in 2007 - done 11 years of "Super Randonneur" in the last 15 - and reasonable selection of 1000km+ including two or three Paris-Brest-Paris over the years too. I can't think of a more inclusive cycling niche; I've certai...

I've always avoided it when I've been up there, especially in early spring and autumn, as it had a reputation as a bogfest. I might have a look when I'm back in the next few weeks. :-bd

About 15 miles from me in the middle or rural Dorset, we have used this one as a meet up with family camping site. Right on the Dorset Gravel Dash route, but train stations are a fair distance.

Cheap and cheerful stuff available from anywhere like Boots is Conotrane, bed sore cream that's much better for pressure sores than Sudocrem and costs about £1.50 a 100ml tube.
