Re: 800 miles, 98% off road - anyone?

Its a good thing that someone has started to pull something like this together, but i'd be interested to know if anyone has ridden the route yet, or if its been a desktop exercise. Aware that the Yorkshire section follows the PBW, but it wouldnt be the route i'd follow and there are much better rout...

Re: New Route in Central Spain

Cheers

I’m ok for gas, as I’ll just survive on cold stuff.

A bit warmer than I expected on a night, but will probably come prepared for it to drop to zero.

Have two large 750m bottles, but will I can accommodate more :-bd

Re: New Route in Central Spain

Just starting to get stuff together for this. A few questions: How much water capacity are we thinking? Assuming no resupply between villages What daytime temps? Likely overnight temps? Assume it could be cold overnight Possibly just get away with a bivi? Assume it’s fairly dry that time of year and...

See you there chew, I'll be on my purple stooge. I'm getting the train to Thirsk then bike to the start. Will be biking from robin hoods bay to Scarborough for my train home at the end too. Probably on my cream Swift, so i'm sure I'll see you about. It looks like the Forresters Arms is shut, so it ...

Re: New Route in Central Spain

Yes I started to have a look at things yesterday. - Aim to ride the full route, but make a decision after a few days if its achievable. Option of taking the Atajos at La Puebla de Valverde if it seems like too much - Was thinking around 100k a day, and see how we get on. Is it a full 7 days, as some...

Re: Peak District Wild Camping

There are a few spots down in Derwent water, but you'd need to get there late. Also you'd have to pick your time to get over Cut Gate, as its likely a bog at the moment.

If you fancy heading over to Calderdale, I can take you out for a ride and show you some quiet spots?

Re: Pyrenees / Raid Pyrenean?

I've had a look at the route for our summer tour, but going from Coast to Coast seemed like a logistical nightmare.

Have been thinking about potentially flying out to Pau and making a circular tour from there.

If you do go, it would be interesting to hear how you get on :-bd

Cheeky Showers in the Lake District

Fingers crossed that if the weather holds for later in the week, I should be going up to the Lakes for a few days of climbing. Being a tight-fisted Yorkshireman, I’ll probably just end up sleeping out somewhere. Anyone know of potential campsites that I could wonder in un-noticed to have a shower? P...

Re: Tri-bar curious

I used clip-ons for a while. They take quite a bit of setting up, and I found that while they were useful in certain situations, the downsides of extra weight on hilly rides made them a bit too much hassle. If you can get a cheap set/borrow some have a go, but unless its somewhere really flat and wi...

Have a look on the main site. In to downloads there are cues as to how far between villages and food/water supplies

Yeah, I need to have a good look at the route and decide which options as the full route may be a bit too much for the time constraints.

Re: Audax tips?

So it's normal that food is provided at control stops? Not provided, but usually available. Controls will usually be a cafe where you may get a stamp, or a town where you'll need to get a receipt So on this event theres a control at 104.3k in Montgomery. You just have to prove you've been there at ...

Re: Audax tips?

When you sign-on there will be some kind of route sheet detailing all the controls and their distances. I just shove that in my pocket and remember where the next one is. The usual rule of minimising stopped time and being efficient when you do. For a 200 if plan on having 2 proper stops to have a g...
