Time to go for a short spin to test it out, I will not be dangling a mug, or wearing a checked shirt, but I am sporting a beard. https://media.bobarnott.com/gravel/2020-09-15-grvl-wnkr.jpeg Interested hear how you get al...

Re: Quilt Fabric

I'm cheating quite a lot and enlisting the help of my mum who has a dab hand with a sewing machine I was going to try an enlist either my Mum, Sister or Sister-in-law, all of whom have fancy machines. Are you going for a closed or open footbox? I think i'm going open for simplicity and a zip for th...

How tall are you OP? The Cumulus aren't quite long enough if you're 6' or over. I really wish I'd got a custom one made with an extra baffle. They're a great bit of kit though.
Not tall enough! 🤣

Re: Down Quilts

Back to the OP. Quilts are dead easy to vent and therefore use a higher rated one in warmer times, moreso than full bags. I would get the 250 at least as it would be one piece of kit that does most UK conditions. None of which helps you get something by Wednesday. Then again I'd just grab a backpac...

I think you should hang fire for a few days if you can as from what I understand, Stu is going to be listing some Cumulus stuff in the shop here very soon. I thought he was listing Criterion, not Cumulus...? Personally, though I understand the urgent urge for gear, I would drop the "immediately ava...

Down Quilts

As I now have a new job, I can probably afford to buy a down quilt, rather than making my own. Which means that if I can get hold of one in the next few days, I can use it for this months BAM on Thursday night. I know the general recommendation on here is to buy a Cumulus one of some sort, with the ...

Re: What are you listening to now?

Spent a few hours weeding the garden yesterday and will spend a few more today. Decided to listen to 13 Minutes to the Moon Season 2: The Apollo 13 story again. Spellbinding, just like Season 1: The Apollo 11 story.

Re: A question - everyone can play.

Like many, I was brought up going to campsites - a week in a canvas frame tent each year in N Wales and I will be staying on a campsite for a few days next week but what about your bikepacking trips? I could see the benefit if I was away for a long trip; access to a proper shower, maybe also a wash...

Re: Todays ride

A much nicer experience sleeping in a tent, although there was quite a lot of condensation. Took two attempts to pitch and I think I'll need a few more tries to get it properly taut: https://media.bobarnott.com/gravel/2020-09-06-tent.jpeg Then it was out on the bike for a romp into fen country : htt...

Two, one hour, virtual white board software design tests this afternoon. They've already got back to me, through to the next stage, a three hour pair programming task. Not sure if that's cheery or not... 😶

Re: Quilt Fabric

’m sure there will be a difference in packability from using a lighter weight fabric but I reckon most of the bulk is driven by the insulation. I was pondering that as well. If it goes OK, then I plan to make a couple more, so I suppose the first one just needs to be functional. Also... I find the ...

Quilt Fabric

Spent a bit of time last night looking at fabric on both Adventur Expert and Extrem Textil . If I'm going to make my own quilt, then the goal is the smallest pack size possible. I was looking specifically at: 10D Nylon ultralight, 22g/sqm , from 12,40€ 20D Nylon taffeta, 38g/sqm , from 8.68€ Nylon T...
