Re: How Ethical is Aldi Merino...?

Obviously a lot of local factors involved. Absolutely. I've had Howies, Lab Gear, Montane (a poly-mix), Finisterre, On One and various other manufacturers merino products. They've been of variable quality, durability, level of itchiness and propensity to metamorpose in the wash. I wonder if it's mo...

Re: How Ethical is Aldi Merino...?

Always useful to base decisions on facts though, or at least the best thing that purports to be a "fact". So did you drop Aldi a line or was the decision based on forum comments and gut-feel? I had a feel in store, they were very thin. The shop was busy, no-one was social distancing, I left as fast...

Re: Winter gravel

Another option perhaps is rim protection strips. Not fitted a set I have yet, so can't comment on if they are any good. I ran a Tannus Armour insert in my rear wheel last winter, I still managed to pick up a couple of punctures. Totally deadened the responsiveness of the bike as well, which made it...

... and delivered a Selk'bag 6G Original wearable sleeping bag. It's probably too big and heavy to take out on the bike, but maybe if we have to resort to emergency regulations again, I may try it in the back garden. It's actually for wearing in the shed while I work, as it was just too damn cold in...

Re: How Ethical is Aldi Merino...?

Alpkit are B-Corp rated company now and state the source of their merino, so where ethics are important I'd buy theirs - £40 is still fair vfm. Plus, they're a bunch of good people. Aldi kit is probably good to be fair, they're like Decathlon. Having ethics isn't compatible with getting the lowest ...

That's a job I still have to do. What brand do people recommend for silnylon...? SilNet Thanks for that, having looked at it dried, it looks much better than expected and there doesn’t seem to be an issue with it when you pull the seams taut. Is there a knack to seam sealing? I used the provided Cu...

Re: How Ethical is Aldi Merino...?

I bought a pair of their leggings to replace my worn out Icebreakers, that was a few years ago but it did say ethically sourced on the packet, not sure about the current one though, might be worth eyeballing in store. I was planning on going in tomorrow anyway, I'll have a look and see what they sa...

I'm looking at getting Vittoria Terreno Wet's for the up coming slop. It's either that, or get some slicks and switch to the road.

How Ethical is Aldi Merino...?

So it's Aldi cycling special buys, from tomorrow. They'll supposedly (sold out online) have merino base layers in store, for £17.99 a piece. I'd been planning on buying some Alpkit merino, to use as my sleeping base layer, which are also in their Spacemaker sale, but at £39.99 a piece. Alpkit state ...

Also, some Madison Roadrace 3/4 waterproof shorts, I have a pair already and they're great, but as they have now been reduced to half price (£34) I thought I should get another pair to have in stock for when my current ones are worn out.

Re: Tubeless - An idiots guide

I use Orange Seal Endurance and it's been, okay. Seals most punctures to the front wheel without issue (sidewall cuts excepted), point blank refuses to seal the rear tyre though. Just make sure you buy a couple of bottles of your chosen brand, and get at least one bottle with an applicator, yes you ...

Re: Tubeless Repair Kit

I have the Sahmurai system. Used it twice in, err, anger. You don't say if you have done so but it's worth practicing on an old tyre. Part of the Sahmurai system is a reamer to enlarge those awkward slightly smaller holes. I stabbed my old Jumbo Jims multiple times, my old Conti Terra Trails multip...

Tubeless Repair Kit

After two rear tyre punctures last week, I've come to the conclusion that one of tools in the Decathlon tubeless repair kit is sub standard. Specifically the pronged, fork, stabby thing, that you're supposed to force the anchovy through the tyre with. As I've now only one anchovy left, and the local...

I'd been cycling for a little over an hour and a half on Thursday, when I threw my toys out of the pram. Yet another puncture to the rear tyre, the second that week, another skinned knuckle fighting to get the tubeless plug in. There may have been shouting and swearing, as the dam holding the accumu...

remind me again is there something about which side to use, when etc? I've just been using some old section of plastic sheet until now. Bob... is that barrel bag on your gravel bike waterproof... Like properly waterproof... No. From the Alpkit website: Due to its stitched construction, the Toploader isn’t 100% watertight so we would still recommend storing electronics in a waterproof dry bag. But thanks to the VX21 fabric and the Y...
