Re: Bivvy a month 2020.

It wasn't all bad planning. It did mean I got a big plate of pasta and some fresh plums. Riding over Cut Gate in the dark on the gradventourer was challenging. Tiredness was setting in, I wasn't doing a good job of picking lines, and severe underbiking didn't help. My tyres hate me. I now have a new...

Got a couple of free samples of the new Nescafé Azeera bags. They're predictably sub-par.

Anyone else remember the days when all Shimano mechs had the same actuation ratio and all you needed was to match the shifters to the cassette?

Carbon 29er frame, big, £45

For sale. A big unbranded 29er frame. Please note. The previous owner had a "brake lever meets top tube" incident. They had the carbon fiber repaired by way of wrapping round the tube and rode it for a bit. I've also ridden it a bit. Catastrophic failure has not occurred. But caveat emptor and all t...

I'm playing catch up here, but is the gist we all need to head to Whitestone's for pizza this evening?

That seems like a good amount of time/distance you've had out of them.
I find it depends a lot on riding type and conditions - I've worn a set out in a day in wet, gritty winter conditions.

Pretty sure that'll rely on crowd sourced input. No chance it'll get filled up with spurious misinformation.

Re: Shaky shaky alternaty

I had a Keela Saxon. I don't think it ever kept me dry. It also resisted all my attempts to reproof it. Outdry continues to prove its worth as a waterproof, but it is heavy and not especially breathable. Shakedry is amazing, both for waterproofness and breathability. It's so light I'll pack it as a ...

Re: What Gravel ****** brakes - GRX worth the dosh?

I got to spend 5 days riding a bike with Ultegra hydros. The extra power and modulation was a different class, way better than anything I've managed to get from Spyres.

Re: Replacing a Bar Bag and Harness

...it's the sleeping bag that's the main bulk. Something I've found helps me with packing is to not use the sleeping bag's stuff sack. I pack my saddle bag with mat, bivvy bag, tarp, pillow and pole, then stuff the sleeping bag into the remaining space. The flexible shape (rather than a big cylinde...

P.s.: does any one have a photo of the discussed wind screen? Had a quick look through the BB shop but couldn't figure which one was meant. Here's mine in action. https://www.instagram.com/p/CDMRwc8FbhO/ Thanks for all the comments. As I'm only using it to boil small quantities of water, I'm not hi...

Gas stoves, windshields and... explosions?

So, I have an Alpkit Kraku stove, and one of Stu's magnetic windshields, and I put a little video of it on my Instagram profile. Someone commented: With that much gap you're most likely safe. But the thermodynamicist in me cringes at full windscreen around the gas canister. When I asked for a little...

Re: Possibly a catastrophe. Advice needed please.

(I am not a qualified engineer, but...) There's nothing there that would worry me about the frame. The mech hanger snapping will have been where most of the force will have gone. If there is any damage to the frame (IMO unlikely), it's not in a place that would fill me with horror (as opposed to e.g...
