Re: Gravelwanger - what chainring do you use?
40/28 and 11-36.
On 700x42c tyres, this gives me 101 GI at the top end, and 21.7 GI at the bottom.
Laden, I wouldn't mind summat lower at the bottom end. Top end, I very rarely use it, and normally do better by concentrating on my aero tuck rather than pedalling.

Re: Flat pedal shoe recommendations
I've got some 5.10s, the Impacts. They're fairly weatherproof until all the rain gets in at the ankle, at which point they resemble buckets. Pedal grip is fantastic, but for hike a bike and walking in mud, they're non-starters. I'm not convinced any MTB-specific flat pedal shoes have enough off the ...

So far this year I've managed 5.6, 6.7 and 2.7km runs. That last of these was done loaded for half the distance, in that I ran to the bakery and back.

Re: Get-me-home advice - stripped crank
But as your crankset rotates, the forces on the axle are not just up/down. You're also pushing forwards (at the start of the pedal stroke) and backwards (as you pass the 6 o'clock position). Once you add a second pivot point into the equation, the rotational forces are reversed again - hence BB thre...

Re: Get-me-home advice - stripped crank
My understanding is that it's not to do with how force would be applied if you held a spanner on the axle and turned the cranks, but to do with the way that forces are applied to the axle and where it threads into the crank. One way to think about it is rolling a smaller cylinder (e.g. a magic marke...

Who even knows or cares what day it is anymore, eh? Cheery video. I've tried on a few pairs of Salomon and found them narrow. I get on well with Decathlon stuff, and have some Kalenji trail shoes that fit nicely. Other sizing points of reference; I've tried on a lot of cycling shoes and found Shimano, Northwave, Gaerne, Sidi too narrow. Specialized and Lake fit ni...
