Re: Thermal trousers instead of sleeping bag?

Just to say they do come up big, I was issued them and never wore them.

They tend to burn well, I seem to remember!

.....and returned my Oakleys after the WRT, they decided they would rather stay in the sunshine at bearbones towers, who can blame them!
Oh and a set of brake pads after said WRT as they levers were getting closer to the bars than was comfortable on the descents!!

Thank you Stu, I appreciate it.

Re: WRT TLS or TTMS?

That was a lad on a genesis longitude who thought bike maintenance consisted of changing the chain now and again, bumped into him near Dolgellau and he was in the small ring all the way. Think he was alright as we passed his bivvy and he was standing up.

Oakley racing jackets

Hi, just back from WRT and I suspect I may have dropped my glasses by the car in the field as I don't seem to have them any more.

If any body was to find a pair of black/white Oakley racing jackets I would appreciate them back.

Anyway great event and now to rub after sun in my arms and neck!!

Re: Chiltern Spring Thing 2018

Thanks Rich, it was a good ride out and a good shakedown before WRT. struggled in the mud on woefully inadequate tyres, but enjoyed the evening.
Glad you made it back OK Mike.

Re: Burley child trailer

I like it, but have a habit of forgetting it is on the bike, so I often filter and then think oh that wasn't a good idea, also here in Milton Keynes with their fantastic redways every entrance/road crossing has yellow posts to stop vehicles I suppose, and I'm forever hitting them with the trailer. Re: Burley child trailer

Hi, Yes they can, The problem is the base is fabric and depending on the weight of your dog may be difficult for them to get comfy. I converted my one to a cargo trailer when the kids outgrew it, it was a bit tricky but turned it upside down and re-drilled the connecting arm, piece of 12mm birch ply...

Re: Nipples and tape

Hi, Yep I have done this but I was using the Schwalbe tape.
Not sure about gorilla tape, but I did go around quite far and I can't see why it should be any different.
Fun was getting the broken nipple out.

I was under the impresion KMC made all of Shimano's chains.

Might be they are made to a lesser spec though.

Was out riding on Sunday morning and spent a good while watching a woodpecker go at a tree, it was quite melodic, I brewed up a cuppa whilst it was making a lot of noise

Hi Steve,

I live real close to Newport Pagnell, and can lend you what you need.

I could probably give you a few pointers too.

Re: Wrapping Bars

I have wrapped mine in a single layer of cinelli chubby and works fine. It is just around the brake levers and shifters where it gets tricky, as you can't really over wrap them like a set of drops, a double layer could work, but would look and feel bulky.

Re: Mini tools

I think that most of the chain tools on the multitools are woeful. I would say you are better off getting a decent one without the chain bit and carrying a Park Tool CT-5 seperately, weighs not much, and actually works without having to rebuild the multitool. I also carry a leatherman wave buried de...

Re: DIY Frame repairs or frame builder in Hull area

I also ride a longitude, and yep, there are a few stays that look as though they are crooked. If you can find a way of accurately measuring lengths left and right say with a non stretchy piece of string or a long metal ruler, then that will give you an idea. But it is true what others have said, it ...

Re: Chalke Way anyone?

I did the Icknield way bit last year, and it was good in parts, but a lot of it is footpath and other sections were just impassable, with brambles and nettles, my legs and arms looked like I was self harming. I believe the Peddars way has a lot of footpath sections. Plenty of bivvy spots though.

Re: Bike gps which one for a long week in the saddle

I use the GPSMAP 62s, works well with gloves, and is fairly foolproof. always gets a fix, will need a different attachment to the bars though. Problem with pretty much all GPS's is the size of the screen, it just doesnt show enough to easily plan routes, thats where paper maps are best. I usually ge...

Re: The kit's got lighter ... but are we still touring?

I totally agree with everything said, I was surprised bicycle panniers are such a new thing. The point I was trying to make is it really matters not what way people carry or the things they need, and sometimes we overthink this to the risk of not riding because we need the latest bestest lightest th...
