Re: Winter boots

I have a pretty beaten up pair of Gaerne boots. I've found the boot itself isn't as important as the additions I use to make them work. I wear the boots with a decent sock and I have neoprene collars, think the bottoms cut off the legs of a wetsuit that stop water entering from the top. I can ride f...

Re: Favourite bike of 'all time'?

It's a great question this... I thought it'd be easy to answer but it isn't, the more I think the more bikes come to mind and as you say, the bike starts to drift into the background and the memories fill the foreground. Ok, so I'm not going back to the day... that way lies a few shockers but great ...

Re: Hot and bothered

I sweat freely but function poorly in the heat. My guess would be a drop off of around 30% if it's hot and humid. When the sun drops and the temperature dips below 20 degrees I feel great, Duracell bunny good. Tried fluids, electrolytes etc but just staying hydrated and controlling my effort seems t...

Re: Carbon vs alloy wheels. Worth it?

It's rare I have a different stand point to Alpinum but in this I do. Having cracked 3 carbon rims in one year I went back to alloy. I found carbon rim damage meant I could not continue to ride whereas I have not experienced a catastrophic alloy rim failure some many years. As with all things biking...

If I didn't take an offer like that I'd want someone to take me outside and beat me to death...

Say half the money.... same as above.

Re: Tyre Liners

Not tried the Tannus yet but I have been using inserts for many years. It is a gravity bias thing really. I ripped a rear in North Wales during an Enduro, rode the remaining 6 miles on the insert (Cushcore). Last week I shredded a front a 3rd of the way down the Aosta Freeride and still overtook peo...

Sounds like your rim is the common factor.

I've run various tyres on Arch Mk3 with no problems.

Bin the rim.

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Going slightly against the grain.... Stuck a Vorsprung Smashpot coil conversion in the Lyrik and mounted a boat anchor Fox DHX5 coil on the rear, using a Bikeyoke 6.1. I then threw it in the back of a mates van and waved it off to the Alps where I'll meet it on Sunday.... damn I'm looking forward to...

Re: A bit of bivvy related input required.

With my combination of slippery, crinckly and slidey sleeping kit, I don't think I've ever woken up where I went to sleep.

I love Sean's magnet idea, though the mesh has never bothered me.

If you make the double bagger purely from mesh I'd be tempted as an around camp anti aircraft device.

Brilliant, great attitude and lots of smiles.

I'm inspired, it's just a pity my bike packing gear is currently.... erm, packed... in a box in a lock up.

Hello you crazy diamonds...

I've been a little over busy so have only just seen that this was happening.

Looks like you had a great time, I'll be paying more attention from now on so will hopefully catch up at some point.

Re: Is a Signal Ti preposterous for long trips?

I had a good go on the Signal Ti when trying to decide which HT to go for. If I was to have one bike for everything it would be the Signal. It felt spot on fit wise, loved the geo for the more full on side of things and it rolled/covered ground with ease. The space for big 29'' rubber gives great op...

I set off on the 28th May last year. I wanted to get off the first train into Knighton from Shrewsbury and then return to Shrewsbury on the last train out of Dovey Junction that evening. 04.49 Shrewsbury arrives 05.37 Knighton. Ride the TCW arrive at Dovey Junction to catch 19.59 to Shrewsbury. That...

Re: Dirty Reiver advice

Thanks all.... sounds pretty much what I was expecting. The thinning process at the start should be helpful for not going off too fast. Good point about the feed station, I'll have a stem cell full of my special trail mix that can normally see me through about 60 miles or so. My mate is a sensible g...

I got talked into entering this event a few months back by a mate.... not really my bag but the reason for entering was to go and have my yearly catch up with said mate. As it goes I have been working every day for some 38 days so far and will be working every one until the event (starting a busines...

I've spent a lot of time, effort and money getting the bikes I have to a point I'm happy. That said I am eyeing further changes to the suspension of the Enduro. Why, because it's an integral part of the appeal, I love trying things, gauging the changes and trying to work out the compromises. As Reg ...

How'd I get that there ^

I give up... finally get a picture up and the quality is poor... then I can't find how I did it!!! Think I'll stick to riding my bike.

Was going to stick a few pics up and do a mini review but lost the will now.

Actually, super mini review.... the bike is mint.
