Great to be back on the hills. Ticked off the Corbett Ben Stacath near Balquhidder. Weather wasn't great but who cares.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021
That's 3/3 for Fraser and I this year. Decided to move on from camping in the garden. On Friday night, we left the house after 11PM and cycled about 25mins past the local National Trust property to a nearby field. Along the edge of the field are fallen and cut down trees. We bivvied behind a large f...

Re: Who plans their routes?
I always plan my routes. Whether I am bikepacking or hill walking, I will have one or other son with me. I like to plan routes with bad weather alternatives and bail out options. Apart from spending hours poring over maps, part of the fun of researching any route is to read up other folks accounts. ...

When we can, definitely worth visiting the Scott Polar Museum in Cambridge: https://www.spri.cam.ac.uk/museum/ Free to enter and it includes a lot of their letters home and other artefacts, some of them are heart-breaking knowing they are not coming home. I really must go there... I have been to th...

Re: The worst journey in the world
Finished the book a short time ago. Was recommended by Al Humphries as a must read book. Took me a while to get into it but when I did, I really enjoyed it.
Must have been grim finding Scott's tent.
Went back to re-reading South afterwards.

My son Fraser and I have decided to attempt BaM 2021. Ticked off January in our back garden last night. Woke up to a frost covered tent. Fraser now out on his bike with Mum on NCN7 down the Clydeside. I'll get out when they get back. As there's no bike racing at the moment, Fraser doesn't have any t...

Re: Danny McCaskill, The Slabs.
Was at the Kelvingrove Galleries in Glasgow with the family one wet Sunday a few years ago. My eldest son Fraser is a big fan of his. When we got there, Danny was practising on his bike at the front of the building. We asked him if it was ok to watch and he was happy for us to do so. At the end of h...

As a family, we are trying to visit all the Scottish inhabited islands. Hoping to bikepack to a couple of "new" islands. Gigha and Lismore are the targets. Went to Orkney the last 2 years and we love the place. Perhaps get back there. Eldest son is desperate to fly on world's shortest rout...

If you are riding from Glasgow, simply follow the 2nd City Divide down to Kielder. Looking at the map, the southern end of the route appears to go close to the West Yorkshire boundary.

The water of leith walkway tunnel has certainly come on since I was last there in 2015 (dark, dank and mucky) And compared to what it used to be like in the '90's (darker, danker, full of knife wielding neds and very mucky; also off limits to bikes  ) Thanks Phil. The tunnel is scheduled for c...

I thought this name rang a bell as they're not that far from me.
Found an fb post dating back to 2013 which recommended not using them. The seller had a bike returned to them as it had been "damaged in transit" ie smashed to bits.

Re: Todays ride
Had my longest ride of year yesterday, a massive 71K. Whoop de doop I hear some say. Rode down into Ayrshire to pick up some more tiles. A77 bike path was really busy. Found some great new back roads in Ayrshire but some bad surfaces too. Great to be out in sunshine.

Why have I never read this thread before  Thats me started on my tile ticking journey - only at a measly 7x7. Clearly some catching up to do :???: Measly is good. We're on 9x9. I'm collected tiles when I'm out and about with my sons. It's a great way to let them where they have visited in the...

Re: Bivvy a month 2020.
Under Emergency BaM legislation, we killed 2 birds with one stone. Got a road ride in during the day picking up stray tiles in SW Glasgow. Fraser had got a ride in with Mum earlier in the day. My other son Lewis had his virtual cub camp. The challenge was for him to camp in the back garden. The 3 of...

For completeness, 2 Lotto Soudal pro's Tim Wellens and Thomas de Gendt rode a chunk of the Montañasvacias trail at the end of last year. 2 Belgian hard men, Wellens wore the polka dot jersey for most of the Tour de France last year. They seemed to be enjoying themselves but only did 3 days due to i...

Emergency BaM legislation enacted. First bivvy of the year for the boys and I. After a trundle to the shops and back on the bike, l put up the tent in the back garden. Lewis also had a Cub challenge to camp out in garden so ticked 2 boxes. Boys had a great night. 1/4 in 2020 and 10 BaMs in last 16 m...

The Second City Divide passes close by our house. Part of our 2020 plans are to start this route. Fraser and I made a start today riding from Whitelee Forest over to Kype Muir. Whitelee was mobbed. After a mile or so, we had the place to ourselves. Was a beautiful day to be out and about. Visited pa...
