Re: 18650 cells.

Have you got any old power tool, laptop, etc. batteries lying around? They can be a good source of cells if you're willing to dismantle the pack. Often one or two cells will fail and the charging circuit will prevent under/overcharging of them and so the battery appears past its best, but most of th...

Re: Can we talk about jockey wheels?

lube the bush and won't size on you like a bearing. (edit: as the actress said to the bishop) One thing I would add... I do try and clean and regrease the innards about every year at least. Pretty sure it helps Like Shaf, I too give them some love once or twice a year, hoping it makes a difference....

All the usual 'markers' that help me define and shape the year weren't there, so any sense of time has largely gone.
This rings true for me.

Re: Pack rafts - Please may I ask?

A deal with a full kit for someone who has nothing paddle and Life saver etc 1/ From the outside looking in - it appears a very expensive thing. Not only are you buying a raft but a pdf, paddle, etc. There's very little available at the budget end UNLESS you spend some time searching it out and doi...

Re: Can we talk about jockey wheels?

It's debatable (but hey, that's why we're here) but I reckon in the case of jockey wheels, a bush makes more sense than a bearing ... unless the bearing can be completely sealed and sealed well. You probably have a point there Stu. The ones I have with the cheap bearings in seized pretty quickly, a...

Re: Can we talk about jockey wheels?

I've certainly noticed the effect of soil type on other bits, brake pads mainly - peat being particularly bad (presumably the acid). That stands to reason - the jockey wheels are pretty low down and exposed so grit is going to eat through even aluminium pretty quickly. I wonder why no-one does steel...

Can we talk about jockey wheels?

Not the most interesting topic, sorry. The standard ones in most derailleurs (Shimano anyway) are plastic wheels with bushes, which unsurprisingly don't seem to last very long before the teeth are worn and they develop loads of play. Seems to be the most common cause of poor shifting IME, but I don'...

With all the mounting points, it looks like that piss-take someone made in Photoshop the other day!

Agreed, a lot of "features" for the money though.

<Sigh> Usually avoid anything Black Friday related on principle, but I've been looking at getting another Columbia Outdry jacket, and I know they're popular on here. There's a code VIP-NEWSLETTER which gets you some extra off, even on already reduced stuff, at their webshop columbiasportswear.co.uk....

Looks interesting, thanks. Very motorbike heavy - not that that's a bad thing.

I did a charity abseil off the Tyne Bridge for COCO when I was a student. They struck me as one of those small but dedicated charities that probably have a real impact on the communities they work with.
