Re: Kit List

Yes that revolver bit is hilarious! "stitched-on union flag" - I did exactly the same thing Peter when I "Inter-Railed" round Denmark/Finland/Sweden/Norway millenia ago. I also had one of those rucsacs  . We must have been the last throwbacks to the Victorians: "stand aside you brigand, can't...

Re: The post man's been ...

OK, I admit it. I've gone soft. One of these 'ere midge nets arrived today. Bit annoyed that I've just checked again and RockNRun are now doing the permethrin one (same weight) even cheaper, sigh. I've got a superlight headnet but it's itchy, and this thing is insanely light at 80g for full coverage...

Re: Kit List

 . Yes I'd had that thought too. My apologies for continuing to fret about this 'sperm oil' - what I'm now quite worried about is the method of obtaining the stuff. I can see that I might need a bit of, mmm, assistance.

Kit List

Right then, I know it's not Friday yet but it's yonks since anyone's aired a full kit list (well ok, I blathered on about my Saga one last week I admit). On my next BaM I'm going to take the exact kit listed below and see how I get on. I'm a little apprehensive about some of it and could do with som...

Re: Winter bivvy, Scotland

 Big fan of Larson. I like the two deer chatting to each other, both standing up on hind legs of course, with one having a giant archery target on his chest. Other one says "bummer of a birthmark, Hal". In fact I actually had a mug at one time with that one printed on it. Or the three-scene one...

Re: Bivvy a month 2019

Yeah they're good those. Bought a few for adding extra "mid" ties on a DD Superlight tarp that I bought ages ago. You'd think they'd scrunch up the material but didn't seem to noticeably.

Re: Going solo - Billy no mates

Aye, absolutely get that too Stu - "companionable silence". Bit like being really comfy in a pair of mega-old slippers that you've had for ages, know all the lumpy bits but love 'em despite those, wouldn't chuck 'em out for the world, etc. Oh, erm, not that I'm implying that you and Chew look like a...

I can just smell that crisp Highland air from here Colin ya lucky booger  . "bit of a rogue" - brilliant! I knew I was hanging around with the right people  . "Reg" - blimey, I finally warrant a capitalised name! The risk of Borderer's wagging punctuation finger is now too much for you...

Conchies are a type of frog?! Are you sure Steve? Nah, conscientious objectors is my vote. Similar to when MaM's conscience causes him to object to yet another of my dodgy bivi spots  .

Re: Straight Outta Door - Ride from home Trips.

Just been watching 'World On Fire' with Mrs Perrin and am familar with the term Conchis, assuming they are one and same. Did they either build the road, or use it to get to the prison? Unless a type of crustacean  .

good point re difference re Hengwm and Hyddgen crossings, not spotted that. Everyone'll be past caring after the preceding bogfest  . Better stop analysing the route in public really or Stu'll rightly tell us off.

Except the "knee high bog to approach" will be several miles long this time rather than just the 100 yards  (I can laff cos I'm not actually going to have to suffer it).

Re: Winter bivvy, Scotland

Well they're already selling Christmas cake and Santa outfits in our shop round the corner (next to the Halloween and Nov 5th stuff!) so it can't be too early can it? . Last year I think we started 'organising' ours in July!! I wonder how many separate geographical groups we can get this yea...

'ff' - I like it. Plenty of imagery to conjure with there. Although this now seems to be playing fnarr catch-up with the BB300 Startlist thread  . You want the video? That might be a bit too much for a Sunday morning  . Perhaps we need an 'A-Z of Bikepacking'. That's 'F' sorted a...

Re: Cycle mag

Something in the Grauniad yesterday. We need a sort of ongoing 'what the press say about us' thread to collect these snippets. Then again these reports usually degenerate into us having a grumpy 'you're being elitist' or 'give them a break they're having fun' needlefest. Anyway it's too late now, I'...

Re: Going solo - Billy no mates

A good point well made NC. The 'GSE' was indeed a classic. It might still have happened for a 'solo' rider (*) but because there were several of us the tide of silly cameos and words kept rolling in waves which interacted and crashed into each other. Any lull in the insanity was broken by two of us ...

Re: BB300 Startlist

X_X . Has the person fulfilling the other half of the arrangements ever met a bikepacking racer after 299km? I imagine they'd have to be particularly, um, strong of constitution.

Maybe it's a similar facility to the Valkyries which appear after a terminal tussocky death march.

"flash backs from a night out when I was younger" - tell us more, it's good to get these things out in the open. Cathartic. Seriously though, warm welcome. 'Routes is right - Bivvy A Month is a lovely and inspiring thread. A world you never thought existed even in your best dreams / worst nightmares...
