Re: Bivvy a month 2015

6/6 Minera Mountain. All my bivvys so far have been in my hammock. For a change, I thought I'd try sleeping on the ground out in the open so I could look at the wonders of the heavens away from light pollution. To this end, after tea, I pedalled (about 23 miles) to the top of said mountain and found...

I'm having an age crisis. It's not so much the riding I enjoy as the still being able to do it.

Like a frog at the farriers

There's a Polish metaphor that translates to,"Where they are shoeing a horse, a frog offers his foot to have a horseshoe fitted" To explain, the frog is not a horse but thinks he is. I change it to "Like a frog at the farriers", it reads better like that don't you think? So why am I posting this? We...

Re: Bivvy a month 2015

5/5 On the WRT, in the forest about 2 miles short of Nant Syddion, having done about 8 miles more than I would have done had I reached my intended destination at Nant Rhys, if I hadn't been stymied by the rally in Hafren and taken a few wrong turns. Had to set up and cook in the dark (goulash and sp...

Re: Bivvy a month 2015

I posted an April bivvy earlier but that was a walk-in. I was feeling that it didn't really count as there was no bike involved, so I packed my bike and pedalled out to Erddig park to camp on the motte & bailey. This is a very pretty spot at the moment with carpets of primroses between the trees. ht...

Re: Fat bike out camping on Tal-y-Fan

I like your video a lot. I thought I'd have a go at videoing myself (and enyone else in the vicinity) so I got a Gopro and a few bits to mount it here and there. The trouble is, I can't make myself stop riding/kiting/canoeing to set 'em up. All my videos to date are one-scene disappointments. I am f...

Re: WRT. I'm getting nervous

Thanks for all the replies and advice chaps. So I've realised that a clean sweep is out of the question. This makes life a lot simpler for planning a route. Or not. I think maybe I'll try to link the nearby bothies and add any checkpoints that are within reach. That way I might bump into a few other...

Thanks for the quick replies and re-assurances and yup, it's back to Memory Map and where's the path for me.

WRT. I'm getting nervous

Oh heck! I’ve been plotting a route for WRT. Leaving out a couple of checkpoints (the one in the middle of nowhere and the one on the island), my route comes to 126 miles. That’s over 40 miles a day. I can manage that. Where it all falls down, is the total ascent at 21,000ft. Ooh-err missus that’s g...

3 of 3. Rode 15 miles out to Larkton hill, Bickerton, Cheshire. The site belongs to the National Trust and if you enter from the main car park there's a sign saying No Cycling. However, if you go in from one of the many other entrances there are no such signs, so if you're challenged, you can claim ...

B.A.M. 2 of 12 A short ride along the Ellesmere canal towpath and hammock in the woods. Re: The post man's been ...

I've been troubled with a certain numbness in the erm.. down there... if you get my drift, ever since I restarted riding some 6 years ago. This year, my Lady has treated me to a Selle Italia saddle with a strategically placed hole in it. The local bike shop has a free measuring service for bums (if ...

See! I knew I could get some good advice from you chaps. When I started this thread, I was wondering if I could just die in my sleep without knowing it. Could I die?

After my BAM 1/12 a couple of weeks ago, I was telling my mates in work about it - well bragging actually, when one of them asked "What if you'd died of cold?"

Now, I reckon if I'd got that cold I would have woken up before I froze, but I don't know.

But I bet one of you lot does?

Re: Death of my bikepacking kit - Vermin

Many years ago, one of our neighbours had a secret (from his wife) stash of cash, about 40 quid, hidden behind a brick in his shed wall. Now £40 doesn't sound much, but forty-odd years ago it was about two weeks wages, say £500 now. Buuut, one day, on checking his hidey-hole, he found a mouse had ch...

Re: Long Shot - Adult Trikes?

My sister has a Pashley trike. I borrowed it once, for a laugh, to go on our 'Gallon Ride' with mates from work, (8 pubs, 8 pints 18 miles). It's a horrible thing - there aren't even any proper bearings in the wheels, just nylon bushes and a Sturmey- Archer 3 speed. Boy was that ever a mistake. Ridi...

1/1. Last monday My wife thought/thinks I was/am mad, but on Monday I started my attempt at BAM 2015. I cycled up to my chosen bivvy spot near (but not in) Llandegla forest, thinking she may actually be right. (Actually, she's always right, but that's true of all wives). This is not my first cycle c...
