Re: Dedicated bikepacking bike... to plus or not to plus?
For what it’s worth.
My first ride on a 29+ left me indifferent.
My first ride on 27.5+ left me thoroughly converted.
Although both rides were just hacking about rides. 6ft if it makes any difference.

Re: Bivvy a month 2018.
Bigdummy, serious question
How is the Brasenose these days? Used to be one of my locals, no pub in the village I used to live in so had to cycle out or lift share to neighbouring villages.
I used to like the Red Lion as well, less so after they got rid of the pool table.

The postman’s been on a number of occasions.

Still stuff to sort, suspension forks and some finishing kit once I’ve settled on a ride position. So the Postie still has work to do!

Very happy with mine. And they’ll come in handy as my new bike is designed to run a short stem so these will help no end.
But yes, heavy and stiff.

Re: Midge season Scotland's west coast
Don't worry about it people still believe in the Loch Ness Monster down there so there will still be plenty of tourists to fleece  Speaking of which, if anybody is looking for a way of relocating to the Highlands. Nessieland is on the market! You get your own cafe as well as a plastic Loch...

Re: Bikepacking beginner
It's not just farm animals that can be a problem with dogs. Ground nesting birds can also be disturbed. I’m also going through this (and yeh, buying a working stock gun dog was a brilliant idea of mine  ) and assuming the Collie is in good fitness I don’t see why not at least for shorter rout...

Can I just say I don’t think this matters. For some it’s a trip out if it’s 5km from the pub, some will cross a continent or more! What do you look for in a route in terms of distance and climbs?

Although I used the other way down, I'd suggest that descent wants to be dry to be fun. Especially with loaded bikes.. I'm led to believe the direct descent to Blair Atholl via Loch Bhac is worthwhile.

Definitely approach from the south, and spend ages looking into the heather for small yellow objects. If a bothy, then Duinish would allow an approach from either north or south,

Lots of keen looking riders in the car park this morning. I skipped barging in and saying hello as it was close to kick off. But good luck and enjoy to everyone out.
My ride was good but much, much shorter.

I'll still get off and push any scary bits admittedly.
