Re: What's the weekend got in store?
I think this weekend will mainly be spent hoping the blood tests don’t come back with anything too horrendous. I’ve been booked back in for more in 5 weeks time so something is going on. Still quite fit enough to get a couple of 2 or 3hr jaunts in and the weather looks decent enough. I need to pack ...

Re: Thinking SS...
I’d worry less about how it looks and more about the gear ratio. And also worry more about how the frame rides. Admittedly my Single Speed (Genesis Day One with 35c CX tyres) is heavy considering there’s only one gear. But in riding I never notice the weight. I do love it, genuine joy to ride. My us...

I was wondering about custom bags, I hadn’t seen anything confirming that’ll happen but it seems logical. In which case shut up and take my money!ZeroDarkBivi wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 10:22 pm Hurrah!
Proper custom bags are bag, so no need to order any more Alpkit crap!

Re: Road and Off Road light options
Sorry. I meant which version of the Strada by maximum output.
There appears to be 4 versions, ranging from 750 to 1500 lumens.

Colin, I have that Viz 360+ light I can use to boost off road lumens.
My main MTB light just blinds anyone coming the other way.

Road and Off Road light options
Any suggestions for an off road light that can work safely (beam pattern) on road? Needs a long burn time for good measure. Or am I better off sticking with my MTB light and switching it off on road and using a separate road biased light? Which would also give a back up option. Budget is flexible. T...

I read that differently. Nothing about restricting access, or indeed trying to keep the wrong people out, but simply not advertising it to those that can’t be bothered to search.

Re: Laminating printed maps
Tough Maps, definitely Tough Maps! Tried laminating film, which works but is fiddly and more prone to leaks, tried a laminator in the past and didn’t get on with with. But Tough Maps are bang on, price aside. I don’t even think I had a weight/space penalty. And for what my view is worth. The experie...

Re: Interesting piece about hypothermia and preparation
A friend of mine wrote this article a few years back, it’s focused on Fell Runners who are often carrying less than most bikepackers. But there’s some (I think) interesting stuff in there and a link to the FRA hypothermia leaflet as a pdf. http://www.everythingoutdoors.co.uk/hypothermia-facts-causes...

Re: Are gravel bikes ....
Nah. I have no problems with naming niches. At least we no longer have folk having to buy a "cyclo cross bike" for commuting when they just wanted a comfy road bike. I can vouch for that, really very pleased to be off the cross bike and onto the gravel bike. No idea how close the geometry...

Both myself and Scotroutes have eBay carbon forks. A cheaper way to try them out. I’ve been using Colin as a coal mine canary as I reckon his would snap before mine.

Re: New Bike ?
I think I can squeeze 2.5 on to my current 29er wheels, but then I wouldn’t feet them on the full suspension bike.
Maybe a set of 35 to 40mm rims and some XT boost hubs are needed.

Re: New Bike ?
How have you got on with the 2.6 x 29er option. I’m keen to try something similar at some point. Although I can get 3x29 up front if I had the rims for the task.
